Knitting Retreat by Anna Husemann - Part 2

And just like that, our incredible retreat has come to an end! The final days were filled with even more inspiration, shared laughter, and beautiful knitting.

We spent our time diving into Brioche Intarsia and creating custom Moodboards, drawing inspiration directly from the serene landscapes, traditional crafts, colours, and unique shapes of the Alentejo region.

Our cultural journey continued with a visit to the lively Saturday flea and antiques market in Estremoz. We also visited the famous Irmãs Flores workshop to discover the picturesque, UNESCO-recognized clay dolls of Estremoz. Of course, there was still time to visit another local yarn shop and explore the fabulous Tile Museum (Museu do Azulejo)!

To wrap up this magical experience, our final workshop was all about designing your own Intarsia scarf.

Knitting Retreat by Anna Husemann - Part 1

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful Anna Husemann for accepting our invitation, and to all the amazing guests who joined us for this unforgettable retreat!

Here is a little glimpse into our first few days together:

Day 1 was an absolute immersion into colour and texture, completely dedicated to mastering the art of Creative and Marled Intarsia knitting under Anna’s expert guidance.

Day 2 was all about cultural discovery. We visited Nisa to admire its rich traditional textiles and the stunning, unique pottery decorated with quartz stone. Afterwards, we headed to Castelo de Vide, where we had a lovely traditional lunch, visited a local yarn and fabric shop, and walked up to the castle through its charming, picturesque little streets.

The Grand Finale & Exhibition

To wrap up an incredible week with , we hosted an exhibition showcasing most of the beautiful artwork created during the retreat!

Our guests were exceptionally productive, pouring so much passion and talent into every single piece. To celebrate, each participant presented their work and shared their creative journey, followed by a beautiful farewell dinner full of laughs and stories.

Culture, Art, food & Heart

Our retreat with was about so much more than painting—it was a beautiful immersion into local Alentejo’s culture and community! And, of course, we couldn’t talk about Alentejo without mentioning it’s wonderful, authentic food that brought us together at every meal!

Here is a look back at the special places we explored together:

Estremoz Castle: We discovered stunning local folk art and UNESCO clay figures at the Joaquim Vermelho Museum and visited the stunning Santa Isabel’s chapel full of blue and white tiles and frescos selling.

Estremoz Tiles Museum: We found endless inspiration in 800 years of tile collection followed by local w**e tasting.

Estremoz’s Flea & Antiques Market: A relaxing stroll to discover unique regional crafts and local treasures.

Lunch with Purpose: We visited the lovely village of Veiros for a meaningful lunch at supporting their urgent work with children.

Art, history, and community made this experience truly unforgettable.
