I have been baking bread since I was 7 and have always loved it. I was on retreat in March at a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Scotland and got stranded there under lockdown. So to earn my keep I baked bread for the nuns, monks, lamas and lay community for 4 months. I tried out things I had always wanted to, learned how to bake sourdough from the fantastic Hannah Bironzo and realised I wanted to bake a lot more! I got back to Porto and asked around some friends who said they would love me to sell them fresh bread and did I teach classes? I play double bass, flute and sax orchestrally, but also in jazz, Latin and loads of other stuff. At the moment obviously the music industry is going through a really tough time so I thought I'd use the time to set up the Bad Buddhist Bakery. The name clearly is a nod to my time at the monastery. I have been a Buddhist for years but it's a long standing joke that I'm not a very good one! My aim is to set this up as a social enterprise to train people who have had difficulties in their lives to make bread, as well as the zoom classes and delivery service and providing bread to the Porto area. So welcome! If you have any suggestions, want to join a group class or have a 1-1, then please drop me a line. If you're in the Porto area and would like some fresh bread, I'll be putting out a list soon but if you have any special requests, I'd love to see what I can do. Heather x
