I’m writing this with a heavy heart.

Our dear friend Liran Altman, who many of you knew as George, was found dead on January 14th in an Airbnb apartment in Albufeira.

We are trying to understand his last steps and piece together where he was living before he rented that Airbnb. We know that in the past months he had been staying in the area of Lagos, but we don’t know the exact place.

If you were in touch with Liran during December or January, met him, hosted him, lived with him, rented him a room, or know the landlord or housemates he stayed with — please reach out to us.

We are especially trying to locate:
• The house or apartment where he was living before January 14th
• His landlord
• Any flatmates or close contacts from that time
• Any information that could help us understand his last weeks

Even a small detail could make a difference.

Dear friends and family, we need your help!

The past weeks have been incredibly tough for us at Azula. After relentless rain and severe flooding, we found ourselves completely cut off—no way in, no way out. The girls couldn’t go to school, and we were stranded, waiting for the water to recede.

We reached out to the local authorities for help, and while they offered some support, it’s nowhere near enough to restore the roads and pathways we desperately need to start the season.

To reopen Azula, we must:
   •   Build a small bridge over the stream to prevent future damage.
   •   Repair the pathways with sturdy, natural materials.
   •   Bring in a tractor to clear and rebuild the access roads.

The cost of all this is €2,800, and we simply can’t do it alone. If Azula has ever been a home, a refuge, or an inspiration to you, this is a moment where your support can truly make a difference.

As últimas semanas foram extremamente difíceis para nós na Azula. Depois de chuvas fortes e inundações severas, ficamos completamente isolados—sem saída, sem entrada. As meninas não puderam ir à escola, e tudo o que podíamos fazer era esperar que a água baixasse.

Pedimos ajuda às autoridades locais, e embora tenhamos recebido algum apoio, está longe de ser suficiente para recuperar os caminhos e estradas de acesso, essenciais para começarmos a temporada.

Para reabrir a Azula, precisamos:
   •   Construir uma pequena ponte sobre o riacho para evitar novos danos.
   •   Reparar os caminhos com materiais resistentes e naturais.
   •   Trazer um trator para limpar e reconstruir as estradas de acesso.

O custo total dessas reparações é de €2.800, e não conseguimos fazer isso sozinhos. Se a Azula já foi para ti um lar, um refúgio ou uma inspiração, este é o momento em que o teu apoio pode fazer toda a diferença.

‏ 🍄 Wild Parasol Mushrooms from the farm! 🍄

‏Yesterday, I went out and picked these Parasol mushrooms (Macrolepiota procera) right here at Azula. It’s the second time they’ve popped up this season – the first was back in November , and now, after the winter rains, they’re here again.

‏These mushrooms are easy to spot once you know what to look for – the large umbrella-shaped cap and the distinctive ring that slides up and down the stem are the giveaways. They’re a real treat, and the best part? They come straight from nature to the table.

‏A little olive oil, some garlic, a hot pan – and that’s it. Fresh, simple, and so delicious.

‏This is life at Azula – staying close to nature, appreciating what it gives us, and enjoying these moments with the people around us.
