A fully certified organic meal, largely sourced locally, was served in the Vouzela public elementary cafeterias today! We are so lucky to live in an area that is forward looking and willing to spend a little extra to serve good food, but also to open the conversation with students and families about the importance of local, organic food!

I can't recommend Harald's beekeeping classes enough! I took my first course with Harald more than a decade ago (back before he had them in English!) If you prefer Portuguese he also does these courses and workshops in PT. A great opportunity to learn about beekeeping and specific techniques and issues that are unique to beekeeping in Portugal!

We aren't selling meat these days, but we still have cows. This is Limonada and if you can't quite tell which breed she is, it's not you, she's actually a Barroquesa (yes, I made that up 😅) All of our cows for the past 5 years have been a cross between two heritage breeds: Barrosã + Arouquesa. The result are these cute and hearty little cows that don't get us a subsidy because they aren't purebred heritage breed 😜 but we love them and these days, we are just in it to have animals around for the kids to grow up with ❤️

🐝 We're back! 🐝 Another round of mini-beekeeping workshops for kids and adults! The beekeeping for kids workshop this spring was a huge hit, everyone enjoyed being able to get up close and personal (through glass!) to safely observe the bees at work (they also liked eating the honeycomb 😋) This time we will also offer a mini-intro to beekeeping for adults who are interested in knowing more about bees and the basics of what's needed to have your own!

If you're in Porto and you want a certified organic weekly veggie basket, this is a nice option. We used to live near this farm in Guimarães and I can vouch for their quality and dedication to organic principles! Remember that just because a nice person at a local market tells you they are organic but they just aren't certified, that doesn't mean they are- it's a common issue actually; one that we combat by buying certified organic and creating a demand for verifiable standards. It's not so impossible to get certification and if people were really doing it and cared about promoting organic agriculture and keeping high standards, they would get the paper.
