Stepping Stone – The Great Reset 2026:

Every year, Stepping Stone releases a “the year starts anew” beer — an annual reset in liquid form.

I believe this is the third edition. At the very least, I’ve had the last three vintages.

They’ve all been New England IPAs, and to be honest, I haven’t been particularly impressed by the previous releases.

Which is exactly why I almost skipped The Great Reset 2026.

And wow am I glad I didn’t.

This is clearly the best version yet — at least in my opinion.

It’s absurdly thick and absolutely packed with hops delivering flavors of ripe mango, pineapple, and papaya.

The finish has only the faintest touch of citrus — almost none at all — which really amplifies the sensation of richness and density. Nothing cuts through the softness.

I. Need. More!

Snörsjö – Mölgg Snapphanelager:

A Münich Dunkel with notes of bread, raisins, and caramel syrup — but overall it feels a bit thin.

More than anything, it tastes like a Pilsner where the brewer didn’t quite dare commit fully to making a proper Pilsner or true Dunkel, and it ended up in between.

Drinkable, yes. Recommendable, not really.

No reason to spend too much time on this one.

Gamma & Stepping Stone – Step Doink:

Last beer in the lineup of this year’s Doink Day releases.

A collab between the brewery that taught me to love New England IPAs and the brewery that has kept them firmly cemented as my go-to style over the past few years.

So naturally they brewed a dry-hopped ne….. rice lager.

In the previous four collabs, I’ve tried to find a connection between the invited brewery and the chosen style. Here? I’ve got nothing.

Thankfully, it tastes really damn good.

The body is surprisingly thick — especially for a rice lager, where rice would normally contribute to a lighter, crisper mouthfeel. Makes me wonder if a little stream of Big Doink somehow found its way into the tank.

Also be(er)cause this definitely carries a very fruity profile that strongly echoes Big Doink.

I’m very fond of the flavor — but refreshing and highly crushable it is not.

But hey, I’ll survive just fine when I’m only having one and not racing anyone to finish it.

Gamma & Flying Couch – Flying Doink:

Another Doink Day collab release — this time a Dry Hopped Sour brewed together with Flying Couch.

That pairing makes perfect sense to me, considering one of Flying Couch’s most legendary beers is John Lemon — a lemon sour classic.

And yes, this one is definitely citrus-driven as well. The Big Doink hop combo (Cashmere, Citra, Columbus, and Mosaic) isn’t quite as expressive here, but I can still catch a recognizable Big Doink vibe underneath it all.

The sourness hits sharply the moment it touches the tongue, but fades very quickly, leaving behind a somewhat harsh bitterness from the hops.

Not bad — but not particularly impressive either. Too high acidity, too bitter tail.

A decent sour that’s acidic enough to scare away the ‘uninitiated’, but not good enough to truly impress the beer geeks.

Gamma & To Øl – To Doink:

Where I could easily see the logic behind the Doink Day collabs with Fanø Bryghus and Bad Seed, I’m not entirely sure what the connection is between To Øl and a Red Ale.

That said, I’m always interested in trying Red Ales — mostly be(er)cause the style has never really impressed me, so I’m still searching for that beer that truly unlocks the style’s appeal.

This one doesn’t quite do that either.

Sure, it tastes fine, and very much in line with the style: malt-focused with that slightly often too-thin body many Red Ales tend to have.

There’s not much “Big Doink” DNA here, despite using the same hops. The hop intensity has simply been dialed too far down.

So all in all: a decent Red Ale, but a somewhat underwhelming release for Doink Day.

Gamma & Bad Seed – Bad Doink:

Second beer from this year’s Doink Day series — and this time a collab with Bad Seed.

Just as natural as it was to bring in Fanø Bryghus for a lactose-heavy Milkshake IPA, it feels even more natural to invite Bad Seed to do a West Coast IPA.

They’re basically the standard-bearers in Denmark for not chasing the New England trend — and instead mastering the West Coast style. And once you taste this, you understand exactly why they got the call.

This is high, high quality.

It’s seriously bitter. Proper hop bitterness. Very potent. Reminds me a lot of Amager Bryghus and their Wookie IPA. Definitely not for everyone — you need a certain hop tolerance. But if you’ve got that, this is a joy to drink.

The hops are — of course — the same as in the original Big Doink. The flavor profile is recognizable, but the expression is completely different from the soft, juicy New England version.

It’s actually fascinating how dominant Mosaic comes across here — it hits early and hard. That’s not something I usually pick up as clearly in the regular Big Doink.

Could be different ratios, could be the West Coast expression — either way: it works.

It’s been a while since I’ve had a West Coast IPA where one glass just wasn’t enough.

I could easily go for another can or two today.

Definitely one I hope gets a 2.0 release for next year’s Doink Day.

Gamma & Fanø Bryghus – Island Doink:

At Gamma’s Doink Day (now in its third year, I think), they released five collabs — including this Milkshake IPA with Fanø Bryghus.

While many breweries today shy away from lactose like it’s a cursed ingredient, Fanø has no such hesitation, openly using it in everything from IPAs to stouts. So it makes perfect sense they’d show up in a Milkshake IPA.

I’d been told this beer might divide opinions, but honestly I don’t really see why. You’d have to be very lactose-sensitive to dislike it.

The hop bitterness actually balances the lactose sweetness really well — in fact, this might be one of the most bitter Milkshake IPAs I’ve had. Maybe that’s the dividing part?

Flavor-wise, it’s a candy-like mix of vanilla and tropical fruit: pineapple, passionfruit, peach, and a solid squeeze of lime to finish.

I’m very satisfied with this one. And it doesn’t hurt that Oscar was kept out of it, 😉

Ølivet – Røgøl:

I saw that Simon from .sourbeers was very enthusiastic about the first version of this smoked beer (the canned release), so I’d been looking forward to trying this one.

And I get it — the complexity is definitely there. There are elements I really enjoy, and a few I’m less fond of.

The good:
The smoke is very pronounced on the nose, but much more restrained in the taste.

Unlike Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier with its signature “smoked sausage” profile, this leans more fruity.

I can’t quite pinpoint it, but it reminds me of grilled/smoked peach and roasted bell pepper.

The not-so-good:
There’s also that slightly unpleasant note you get from a bonfire when someone throws on a wet, rotten piece of wood.

Thankfully, it doesn’t drag things down as much as the positive elements lift it up.

So all in all, it still lands at a pretty solid rating.

Stigbergets Bryggeri – Scandinavian West Coast IPA:

A very hazy take on a West Coast IPA — reminiscent of something I’ve seen before from Bad Seed Brewing, both in terms of haze and overall quality. Modern West Coast, as Bad Seed calls it.

Flavor-wise, it leans heavily toward a dry New England IPA. It’s very fruit-forward, with pineapple and citrus taking the lead.

In fact, I’d argue it’s more New England than West Coast.

But maybe “Scandinavian West Coast” is simply a cooler label than Bad Seed’s “Modern West Coast” for this kind of hybrid.

Either way — it’s a really enjoyable beer… whatever style you want to call it.

Brouwerij der Trappisten van Westmalle – Westmalle Extra:

A Paterbier / Enkel from the wonderful Westmalle.

A Paterbier (also called an Enkel) is traditionally a lighter, lower-alcohol beer brewed by Trappist monks for their own daily consumption — not originally intended for sale. It’s typically more subtle, less complex, and easier to drink than Tripel or Dubbel.

Even if this is arguably a “diluted” version of Westmalle Tripel, it also comes across a lot like a lower-ABV Belgian Blond.

Whichever way you look at it — it’s a really fine beer. And at just 4.8%, you’re definitely allowed more than one, right?

The flavor is driven by a floral character, with a clear yeast expression that almost leans toward a German Hefeweizen — especially with that subtle banana note.

To be honest, it’s not a style I’m deeply familiar with, so the rating is mostly based on how willing I am to recommend it and buy it again myself.
