🇹🇭One Week in Southern Thailand, Family Edition
A journey through misty mountains, Peranakan parades, and never-ending feasts. Save this eat wind (吃风) guide for your next Thai adventure. Thank you for your patience, we are now back in business.
📍Khao Sok National Park
We arrived late into the night only to wake up to a view we never knew Thailand had. A panoramic view of ancient rainforests and towering karsts cloaked in morning mist.
A must-do in Khao Sok is spending a day out on Cheow Lan Lake swimming, kayaking or simply doing nothing. This tranquil lake is actually a man-made dam powering 7 provinces around the area.
📍 Phuket Peranakan Festival.
By sheer luck, we caught the third edition of the Phuket Peranakan Festival. Having grown up with Peranakan culture in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, we were surprised to learn about the thriving Thai Peranakan community in Phuket! A feast to the eyes to see the old town filled with beautiful batik and sarong kebaya!
📍 Betong
Thailand’s southernmost town, tucked in Yala province. Famed for its mountainous scenery, sea of mist, natural hot spring, Chinese population with a communist past and durian-filled streets. (We were there right in season!)
📍 Hat Yai
Food, food, food! Also S$8 massages. The population on the street speaks a mix of Thai, Chinese and Malay at an impressive level. We felt like a part of a Guinness world record moment feasting at this giant mookata buffet venue. Also, Dim Sum with Bak K*t Teh was a new breakfast combi we have yet to see anywhere else.
We spent the morning praying and receiving a traditional water blessing from a monk in the mountains. An experience mum always wanted us to share.
📍 Krabi
A small local city market with its own unique style of selling and presentation. Quite a spectacle, just perhaps a bit too much plastic.
