As part of the 2021 vine exchange, Côte de Béchalin will no longer be produced at Roses de Jeanne. This southwest-facing plot on Kimmeridgian marl, located in the commune of Polisy and planted with old Pinot Noir vines, has been the source of delicate, expressive Champagne since Cédric Bouchard first made wine from the site in 2004 (then called Inflorescence La Parcelle), and officially under the Roses de Jeanne label from 2007.

While it was a difficult decision to let it go, this change opened the door to acquiring prime vineyards in Creux d’Enfer, marking a new chapter in Cédric’s journey. Côte de Béchalin leaves behind a legacy of subtle power, finesse, and timeless elegance a true expression of its terroir.

From a west-facing 0.9-hectare parcel planted in 1981, sheltered by forest, this is a wine of elegance and charm. Less incisive than Les Ursules, yet fresher and more electric than Côte de Béchalin,
it captures the unique character of this cherished plot.

On our recent visit to the iconic Champagne grower Roses de Jeanne, Cédric Bouchard welcomed us in his usual, quietly captivating style.
Often described as a monk of the Champagne world, avoiding social media and the spotlight, Cédric nonetheless knows how to make a visit feel truly special.

We arrived around 9 a.m. for breakfast and didn’t leave until sunset, moving from one unforgettable moment to the next. The day began with a tour of his cellar, where we explored treasures from his Oenothèque. On this occasion, we were thrilled to discover the new cuvée Blanc de Noirs Creux d’Enfer 2021 and revisit some of his classics: Presle 2010, Ursules 2008, Haute Lemblée 2011, and the exclusive Creux d’Enfer 2009.

The highlight came at the end with an RDJ #4, one of Bouchard’s most enigmatic cuvées. As most of you may already know this discloses neither grape, origin nor vintage simply the wine Bouchard wishes to share at that moment, tasted without preconception. RDJ embodies his creative freedom and refusal to conform to expectation. These are the moments that stay with you the result of years of friendship and shared passion for exceptional Champagne.

The 2021 vintage was particularly challenging in Champagne, with yields significantly reduced across the region. As a result, our next offering, drawn largely from this harvest, will be extremely limited.

Benoît Moreau crafts wines with precision and sustainability. His organic vineyards, soon biodynamic, are tended by hand—no herbicides, no pesticides. He experiments with tressage, hedges manually when needed, and focuses on natural balance. Grapes are gently pressed, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged 18+ months in barrels.
