🏪 Customer vs Coffee Shop Owner — who is right?

The customer’s perspective:
“It’s my own bottle of plain water. Why can’t I put it on the table?”

The coffee shop owner’s perspective:
“It’s the coffee shop’s rule. Outside drinks and water bottles are not allowed on the table.”

According to the coffee shop owner, there was already a notice about the rule, and he told the family they could place the bottle on a chair instead.

But the question is…

Does a “no outside drinks” rule include a bottle of plain water that you brought from home?

And even if the rule is there, how should the owner enforce it?

This is where I think the discussion gets interesting.
The rule itself and the way the rule is enforced are two different things.

It’s very simple for me
Put a table n chair outside faraway corner from the Coffeeshop. Outside food and drinks just sit outside lor as long as bring your own is outside.

No need argue at all. No right and no wrong as just different perspectives. But if don’t enforce for coffee shop owners then everyone bring their own water bottle, own home cooked special meal, own soup, then coffee shop just closed down la.

The stall owner is seen repeatedly taking the family’s bottle and placing it aside, with the father becoming visibly upset.

🌹 Kindness Day at My Canteen ❤️

Today I’ve been thinking about something very simple — kindness.

When I first started giving out little sweets and titbits at the canteen, it was never meant to be anything big. Just a small gesture to brighten someone’s day. Sometimes we don’t know what another person is going through, and a little something given with sincerity can mean more than we realise.

What made me really happy this week was seeing some of you return that little kindness in your own way. Some of you bought little treats for me too, just because you remembered what I shared about Kindness Day. 🥹❤️

And that made me realise again that kindness really does spread.

It doesn’t have to be expensive. It doesn’t have to be grand. It can be a sweet, a snack, a kind word, a smile, helping someone, or simply thinking of another person.

One little act can make someone feel appreciated. And when that person feels good, perhaps they’ll pass that feeling on to someone else.

That’s the kind of little circle I hope we can create in our canteen. 🌸

I’m in my 50s now, and perhaps I look at life a little differently. Opening this canteen isn’t only about running a business for me. It is also my small way of giving back to society and contributing to Singapore in whatever way I can — 为新加坡社会和国家贡献.

So I’m going to make a little Kindness Corner in the canteen. If you have a small treat you’d like to share with others, you’re welcome to leave it there. And if you see something you like, please take only what you can eat and leave some for the next person. ❤️

No big rules. No expectations.

Just a little kindness, shared from one person to another.

Because sometimes, the smallest things can make the biggest difference. 🌹

Just a little way of showing my appreciation and love to everyone who supports my canteen ❤️

I love giving out little sweets and titbits to my regular customers — and especially to more people on Fridays. So I decided to call it “Kindness Day” 🍬🍫💕

One day, an Ah Boy told me,
“Auntie, my mum asked me why I have sweets in my bag!” 😂

Hahaha… I guess I’ve been treating these NS men like my own kids! 🥰

But honestly, seeing their happy faces when they receive a little treat makes my day too. Sometimes, it’s the smallest gesture that brings a little happiness to someone’s day.

And yes… it’s really great to stay young at heart. 💕✨

A little food for thought…

At JQueen Sky, we do not charge for takeaway packaging because we want to make things convenient for our customers.

However, we’ve noticed that some people come into the canteen just to take free utensils and cutlery, even though they didn’t purchase any food from us. Some even bring in their own food and drinks while using our tables and supplies.

Is this really acceptable?

To me, it’s basic courtesy. Utensils, napkins and other supplies are provided for customers who support the stall. These items aren’t free for us—we pay for every single one.

Sometimes I wonder… should this even need to be a rule? I always thought it was common courtesy and an unspoken understanding.

Unfortunately, not everyone sees it that way, so we’ve had to put up a notice:
• No Free Cutlery
• A 20¢ charge applies if you did not purchase food from us.
• No Outside Food or Drinks.

Thank you to everyone who supports local businesses and shows consideration. Small acts of respect go a long way. ❤️

This is what I do daily.

I am like an octopus 🐙 indeed — handling order taking, food preparation, payment verification, customer service, inventory management and operational issues all at the same time.

Behind every meal served is a lot of coordination happening in the background. While customers may only see the final product, there are many moving parts that need attention every single day.

My goal has always been to serve customers better, improve efficiency and create a smoother experience for everyone. Every improvement takes time, effort and investment… Will it bring more sales? I honestly dunno 🤷‍♀️

At this stage, I choose to focus my energy on what I can control, what adds value, and what allows me to serve customers more effectively.

Not every problem needs an immediate reaction. Sometimes the best approach is to keep improving, stay positive and focus on what works. 😊

With rising costs happening everywhere around the world, many F&B businesses are facing increasing pressure from higher ingredient prices, packaging costs, utilities, manpower, transport and supplier price adjustments.

As a small F&B vendor, we are also affected by these changes. Recently, many suppliers have started issuing price increase notices, and despite trying our best to absorb the costs for more than 1 year+, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain the same pricing.

This is not only happening in Singapore — it is part of the global economic situation affecting businesses worldwide. Hawkers and small food businesses have always tried their best to keep food affordable for everyone, often sacrificing profits just to maintain prices for customers. But honestly, it has been very challenging.

Over the past year, I’ve also seen many businesses quietly closing down. Sometimes people say only the strong ones will survive during difficult times like these. Hearing and seeing so many closures around me honestly feels disheartening. But even so, I still want to continue trying my best to maintain, push forward and keep going.

Every price adjustment is never an easy decision. We delayed it as long as we could while still trying to maintain food quality and service standards for everyone who supports us.

To all customers who continue supporting small local F&B businesses and hawkers — thank you sincerely. Your support truly means a lot to us and helps keep small businesses like ours going. 🙏

I am always asked what my dream canteen or stall would look like 😊

For me, it would be soft pinks, cosy vibes, cute little details, and a space that feels warm, happy, and welcoming ☁️🧋🧇💕

A place where people can slow down for a while, enjoy simple comfort food, and leave with a smile.

The rest… I’ll leave to your imagination ✨

Dream big. Start small. Keep going 💖

As a fellow hawker, watching the Circuit Road saga unfold honestly makes me feel quite sad.

Many people only see the drama online, but they don’t see how tiring hawker life really is behind the scenes. Long hours, physical exhaustion, stress, heat, manpower issues and public pressure every single day.

Personally, I feel workplace boundaries are important too. Sometimes talking too much about personal matters in a hawker environment can create misunderstandings and unnecessary gossip.

At the same time, I also feel we shouldn’t permanently stamp someone based on their past. People can change, and anyone willing to lower their ego, work hard and earn an honest living deserves some respect.

Being a hawker is already not easy. Instead of tearing each other down, I hope fellow hawkers can support one another more.

At the end of the day, we are all just trying to make a living. 🙏

作为一名同行小贩，看着 Circuit Road 最近的风波，其实心里蛮感慨的。

很多人只看到网络上的争议，却没真正了解小贩生活背后的辛苦。每天长时间工作、高温环境、体力消耗、人手问题，还有来自顾客与外界的压力，真的不容易。

我个人也觉得，工作场合里保持适当的界限其实很重要。有时候过多谈论私人事情，在小贩环境里容易引起误会和闲言闲语。

但与此同时，我也觉得，不应该因为一个人的过去，就永远给他贴上标签。人是会改变的。愿意放下身段、靠自己双手认真工作、踏实赚钱的人，其实都值得被尊重。

做小贩已经很辛苦了。与其互相攻击，不如彼此多一点体谅和支持。

说到底，大家都只是为了生活而努力。🙏
