Mushroom Buddies Mushroom Buddies is an initiative of Employment For Persons With Intellectual Disabilities (E4PID) Co-Operative.

Currently we are mainly run by volunteers, with a goal of providing employment for special needs to grow & market mushrooms in an urban farm.

30 SECONDS AT OUR FARM 🔊

Nothing rehearsed here. No automation at our farm too. This is part of an ordinary morning at Mushroom Buddies.

After harvesting, our staff count the mushrooms aloud and record which batch they came from besides the total number per basket. Most can now do this on their own.

Sometimes someone forgets a detail. They will need to recount or go back to check which batch was harvested. That, too, is part of the job. One of the numerous tasks our buddies have to do each morning. 👍

ONE GOOD EXPERIENCE LEADS TO ANOTHER

Last week, two J.P. Morgan GoodWorks teams spent two mornings working alongside our team at our inclusive mushroom farm.

The first team helped us clear spent mushroom substrate logs from our growing containers, giving our mushroom waste a second life through composting.

Two days later, the second team took on the heavy lifting, helping us pack new mushroom substrate logs into our growing containers.

It was hot and hazy, but both teams ploughed on despite the conditions. For many of them, it was their first experience working at a local inclusive farm, and we are so glad they chose to spend their time with Mushroom Buddies.

The lovely bonus was learning that Mushroom Buddies had been highly recommended by J.P. Morgan colleagues who had volunteered with us before. One good experience really did lead to another.

30 SECONDS AT OUR FARM! ⏲️
Hong An Sets the Challenge 💪

During one of Carlton City Hotel Singapore Carlton City Hotel’s monthly CSR sessions at our farm, our staff Hong An challenged General Manager, Douglas Glen to turn our Ridan composter using just one arm instead of two.

Douglas accepted the challenge. It was a piece of cake, hence the big cheers!

Inclusion does not always have to feel formal or serious. Sometimes it looks like this: a friendly challenge, shared laughter, loud cheers and a spontaneous hug. 🤗

22 visitors. One very full morning. 🍄‍🟫

Our friends from ABN AMRO Clearing Bank spent last Friday morning with us, meeting our Buddies, harvesting and trimming mushrooms, getting hands-on with composting and, of course, plenty of mushroom tasting.

They even went home with what they harvested... and a little more. 😄
