Happy to see our traditional ice cream uncles and Chip Guan Heng featured in this video by Scoops of Memory, a project supported by NUS Libraries and Temasek Foundation.

For many Singaporeans, the sight of an ice cream uncle cutting a block of ice cream, sandwiching it between wafers or a slice of bread, is something we grew up with. But behind something so simple is a trade that has been slowly disappearing over the years.

We’ve had the privilege of supplying many of these ice cream hawkers for decades, so it was meaningful for us to be part of this project and share a little about the trade from our side as well.

A big thank you to the Scoops of Memory team for taking the time to document the stories of the uncles and helping to keep this little piece of Singapore’s heritage alive.
