Something wonderful is just around the corner ...

Our 4 X 50ml samples secured box is back. And with that, our Whisky Samples are making a comeback too.

Some simple, while others will just make you just go awe ...

Skillfully put together with professionally printed tasting notes labels. The cylindrical 50ml silver cap sample bottles is our all time standard for sample bottling.

The 1st (Fettercairn 12yo) has been completed with another 3 more to be chosen. Keep posted to our Page and follow us on the journey for the next 3.

More information coming on that box that we designed, that we are very proud of too.

Kindness ... Doesn't rhyme with Whisky definitely.

But maybe if l can just get to Marshall Matters aka Eminem then he would definitely make a RAP verse outta it easily. And of course my all time favourite is Loose Yourself.

This my friends, is not Whisky, but home brewed cold pressed coffee. A blend of 100% arabica beans 50 / 50 of Ethopian &
Brazilian beans and Grab Express delivered.

I always say, kindness begets kindness. When you show it to plp that u care n who matters, it gets back to ya. You never know, usually double fold, but it could be 10X instead.

From Eric @ Alcohol Cartel in AMK. And l must say, it came in a beautiful Waterford ARGOT whisky bottle too.

So if you are ever in AMK n just need a good bottle of Single Malt Scotch Whisky to impress anyone, go pay him a visit. Google link here @ https://share.google/GDvpdiDe16OjF6GD6

And of course that Waterford is a quality bottle, just have a look at their cork stoppers, all glass. Superb Pacakaing.

Thank You Eric.

Continuing on the Series of Scotch Whisky names pronunciation. This is #3 of 8 - Allt-á-Bhainne

We move back to a Distillery and Whisky that is definitely not easy to pronounce and all of us from the rest of the World would have called it “Alt – A – Baine”

The distillery that I am referring to is Allt-á-Bhainne. This is a Speyside whisky and quite young too, only half a century old from 1975.

In Gaelic, it just means “Burn of the Milk,” and we would be thinking that someone in the distillery was warming up milk in a fire, but no. Burn of the Milk actually refers to a nearby stream where the water’s from, in producing the whisky.

Allt-á-Bhainne is pronounced as “Ollt-err-VANE”

Stretch your mouth more when pronouncing “Ollt” and forget about alt as in ALTernative. Then the Err as in thinking further, before answering and finally Vane as in vain.

I must say that this was a very very tasty whisky n was very fortunate to have one of the Original Bottlings. But no more, it is gone for good as a Bottle Kill.

Nevertheless, will be out hunting for more of them. If not, there is always IBs n there are loads of it out there. But still, l enjoyed the OB bottling most.

Balvenie, a name so familiar to anyone who loves Single Malt Scotch Whisky, (especially the simple 12yo DoubleWood) is a very dear name to me too.

Forever sealed with the name David C(harles) Steward for 6 decades, a change of guard now to the beautiful; knowledgeable and skilled Kelsey McKechnie, the current Balvenie Malt Master.

Appointed since 2023 and mentored by David himself, Kelsey began her career in 2014 with a very strong educational background, armed with BSc in biology, a Master's in Brewing & Distilling, and even an MBA.

Very stoked to have been invited by William Grant & Sons (WG&S) to witness the release of the 2nd Edition.

Held at the Bar Somma @ 46 Kim Yam Rd, #04-02A New Bahru for Singapore, a minimal bar with extremely clean lines, this bar is great to have a tipple and definitely a wonderful conversational field.

We were treated to a headphones walk-thru tour with 4 additional Balvenie Expressions before being finally wowed by warmly explained by the Global Balvenie Ambassador - . The 4 additional Balvenie Expressions include: -

The Balvenie 12yo DoubleWood
The Balvenie American Bourbon Barrel 14yo: A Selection of Curious Casks
The Balvenie 21yo PortWood
The Balvenie 25yo

All Balvenie Whisky expressions were paired with intrinsically created canapés from the Somma Restaurant. I am not very good with picture taking, but you will see the amount of skill and effort that the Somma Chefs have placed in making them.

Very very clever indeed. That “Cask Cookie” and the transparent “Pineapple Slice” were just amazing !

I have since been relinked with the Balvenie and forgotten how good Balvenie is, not only the 14yo Curious Cask with a very subtle smoke note to it (I call it elegant peat), but the 21yo Port Cask was very very balanced.

And of course, we had a chance to taste the Balvenie 25yo too, not overly oaked for a whisky that has been in a barrel for more than 25 years.

- 2nd Edition (Old & Precious) will now make its way to Jakarta as well and other prominent Asian Countries. An American Hoggie (That’s Hogshead to ya), Cask #7089.

This is indeed a very precious Balvenie. Priced at about $70,000, I believe that there will be deep pockets takers and collectors as there are only 97 bottles from this aged old barrel.

Thank you &S .world for the invite to this spectacular unveiling of the - 2nd Edition (Old & Precious).

And of course Eric @ that made it “in-solitaire” for me that evening.

Scotch Whisky names pronunciation #2 of 8 - Laguvulin

An easy one with #2, as the Whisky Is definitely a very well-known one, full of Peat and linked with a certain White Colour Horse on the Islay Locality.

Lagavulin, an easy one, is pronounced as “Lagga-voo-lin”. Just remember Lady Gaga and a violin. LAGGA as in Lady-Gaga and then violin, just make the moo sound of the Cow and replaced it with a V instead for VOO and finished off with LIN.

The Lagavulin Distillery dates back to 1816, founded in Laguvulin Bay on the island of Islay (I-ler). It got its name from the Anglicisation of the Gaelic reference – “lag amhuilin” which means “the hollow by the mill”.

Just like Ardbeg and Laphroaig, one of the most celebrated Islay Scotch Whiskies out there.

Scotch Whisky names pronunciation #1 of 8

Gaelic. If you ask me, is a real tongue twister.

I only remember that when l started on my Whisky Journey, l was taught not to pronounce the "S" when its in-between. As in just I-ler iso Is-lay.

But lucky me too, being Asian and understanding Mandarin n of course other dialects, we refer to it, simply as ... 爱了

Here are some pronunciations of Scotch-Land Distilleries that you can never imagine, pronounced in Gaelic (there is Irish & Scottish Gaelic actually).

The trick is to forget all about the English language and then imagine something funny to link to the whisky. Here we go with the 1st one

Abhainn Dearg is pronounced as “Avin-jer-rig”. As in Alvin, without the “L” and then Jer, followed by an (oil) Rig.

It is translated as “red river” because of the legendary battle that the local islanders defeated the Viking invaders, leaving the river, red with blood. Which provides the soft, mineral-rich water that makes the whisky.

The Distillery is 18-yo young, from 2007 and is on Uig, located on the western coastal area of the Isle of Lewis.

Their standard offering is the 10yo that comes in a squarerish bottle marked by the Big Red Romanized “X” for 10yo @46%abv and, Blood Red in Colour on the Label.

And stay tuned to the other 7 that will be coming.

They don't make whisky like this anymore.

As described. Just enough Peat to start a Fire. What a way to describe whisky ...

Back in the 70's they said you shouldn't mix Peat with Speyside, that smokiness & sweetness couldn't work. But we followed our nose and started distilling whisky our way.

Allt-A-Bhainne. What a whisky. The Sweetly Peated Single Malt.
_______

Sweet, punchy, a wee bit of bitterness behind, kind on the tongue & palatte. A bottle from the yester-years. And the dry sweat behind in the glass. What else is there not to like ?

Non punchy peat in the face, nor thick chocolates or dry sherry behind. Just a well balanced lightly Peated-Speysider.

And yes, keeping the empty too when its done & dusted. Flat in front, curvy behind n almost like a coat on the shoulder part. If this bottle had sleeves, it definitely falls nicely down by the side.

What a unique bottle shape this one. Simply lovely.

A simple term that we use most of time, but then there is lukewarm-crazy and Crazy-Crazy.

Same for collectors like us ...

I suppose the craziest would be the Vietnamese Collector - Nguyen Dinh Tuan Viet, with multiple Guinness World Records.

Apart from the complete Macallan Fine & Rare series (starting with the 1926 release). And also the Intrepid, a 311 Litre bottle of a 32YO Macallan Single Malt, (world's largest whisky bottle).

You can read all about it here @ https://www.theguardian.com/food/2023/aug/31/vietnamese-collector-revealed-as-buyer-of-worlds-biggest-bottle-of-whisky

Well, this is my kindof crazy, I just could not give this up when it was presented to me.

The Official-size Cask Iron Display Bottle Stand for the Macallan Harmony Green Meadow. I think most of us would have seen it at the Duty Free Shops when travelling, but we simply either paid attention to the Bottle or paid for the Bottle, not the Stand.

Nevertheless, I am the proud owner of the complete set, the Display Stand and also the Bottle. I guess this makes me, just lukewarm-crazy as compared to Mr Nguyen.

And what else to admire & marvel it, but with Madonna’s “Crazy for you” from 1985, incidentally, 4 decades since, released on 2nd March 1985.

Hear it here @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHutZXREZ0End. This sure brings back memories.

Now, maybe I’ll write to Mr Nguyen ask him if he has this in his collection. 😄😄😄

We take pride in our Whisky Samples.

We do not just include our tasting notes, but an image of the bottle too. In a way, when one noses & tastes, at least a visual illustration to recall what was tasted.

Yes, we have always advocated, “Drink with your Nose”, for whatever the nose agrees to, so will the palate.

But then again, would you not like a picture of what you have tasted so that you may want to get it again, so simply stay far away from it, in the future. 😄😄😄

Well, we don’t just bottle samples, but we cloaked them as well (the clothing term would be too fashionable). And Leather would perfect, No ? Very gentlemanly too with a little “BOW” on top to secure the bottle.

More of these “Coat of many colours” will be coming soon too for the Ladies, in due time.

On the other hand, glass containers are always chosen over plastic ones, nostalgic in a way but extremely secured.

These flat 100ml bottles are UK ISO Standards and fastened with “cone caps” whose main purpose is to prevent leakage. Fairly difficult to find locally actually.

Well, a little gift to someone that has been kind to us with some support work.

Who knows, you could be the next recipient of a beautifully hand-crafted Gift too.
