At Imperial Arowana, we are not a retail aquarium shop. We are an Arowana breeding farm, and breeding has always been the core of our business.

Every breeding decision is backed by DNA profiling. Before any brooders are paired, we verify them against our DNA library to ensure the lineage is correct and the genetics remain consistent. We do not breed by guesswork. Every pairing is carefully planned because we know what we are aiming to produce and what to expect from the offspring.

Buying an Arowana should never feel like buying a lottery ticket.

Understanding the different varieties and their genetic potential is essential. A Crossback Arowana may take up to four years to reach full maturity, while a Blood Red Arowana can take up to seven years. Patience is part of the journey.

Likewise, a young blue-based Arowana does not automatically become a deep blue fish when it matures. Base colour is only one characteristic. The final outcome depends on the fish’s genetics, lineage, and selective breeding—not wishful thinking.

This is why we place so much emphasis on genetics. It allows us to set realistic expectations for every customer and produce fish with consistency, generation after generation.

This is Jonathan.

We first got in touch in August 2025 when he was planning his new BTO. Even before the renovation began, we sat down to discuss the aquarium he envisioned for his new home.

Every custom aquarium starts with understanding the owner. We want to know how you appreciate your fish, your height so the viewing experience is comfortable, how easy the tank will be to maintain, the species you intend to keep, the expected bioload, and ultimately what you hope to achieve from the aquarium.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution.

Fish keeping is never fast food. It is about listening first, understanding your needs, and only then making recommendations. Every setup should be tailored to the individual, not built around what is easiest to sell.

Our goal is to create an aquarium that looks elegant while remaining practical. A clean design is important, but so are ergonomics, accessibility, and ease of maintenance. A beautiful tank that is difficult to service will eventually become a burden.

Today’s market offers many modern aquarium systems with multiple valves, complex plumbing, and numerous moving parts. They certainly look impressive, but we always ask one simple question: What happens when a gasket fails or a one-way valve gives way? How quickly can it be repaired, and what happens to the fish while waiting?

At Imperial Arowana, we believe after-sales support is just as important as the initial installation. If repairs are required, we can temporarily house your fish safely at our farm while the work is being carried out. That gives our customers peace of mind, knowing their prized fish are always in good hands.

An aquarium is not just a purchase—it is a long-term commitment. Our responsibility does not end after installation.

Why is buying an Arowana from us different? 🐉

It goes far beyond simply buying a beautiful fish.

Every batch of Arowana produced at our farm is registered with CITES and linked to the father’s registered tag. More importantly, at Imperial Arowana, you can see the actual parents and their upline.

Although it is not a regulatory requirement, we also maintain our own database with the mother registered as part of our internal traceability system. When DNA results from our fry come back, we can use that information to verify and document the complete genetic line.

Traceability is not a marketing word to us. It is a system.

Every single Arowana at our farm can be traced back to its pond and its exact parents — even when pond rotations have taken place.

So how do we work towards producing and guaranteeing the quality of the final product from our fry?

We back our breeding with science.

Selective breeding, DNA profiling, genetic records and continuous evaluation allow us to make breeding decisions based on data rather than simply breeding fish and hoping for the best.

And there is another important part people often overlook — the law of large numbers and economics of scale.

When you operate a proper breeding programme with multiple breeding grounds, large numbers of broodstock and substantial fry production, you have the ability to evaluate, select and retain the better genetics over generations. It is not about getting lucky with one fish. It is about building a system capable of consistently producing better fish.

After a good harvest, our Reds are currently being given shrimp heads to help replenish them after their period without food.

Breeding Arowana is not just about putting two fish together.

It is genetics.
It is science.
It is record keeping.
It is scale.
It is selection.
And above all, it is responsibility.

在皇宫龙鱼繁殖场，每一批龙鱼都会进行CITES登记，并与父鱼的注册芯片资料进行对应。更重要的是，在我们的繁殖场，您可以看到真正的亲鱼以及它们的上游血统。

虽然母鱼资料并不是法律规定必须公开的项目，但我们依然建立了自己的完整数据库，并将母鱼资料进行登记。当鱼苗的DNA检测结果出来后，我们可以通过这些资料进一步核实和记录完整的遗传血统。

对我们来说，血统追溯不是一个营销口号，而是一套真正执行的系统。

即使繁殖池经过轮换，我们繁殖场里的每一条龙鱼，都能够追溯到所属池塘以及确切的父母鱼。

那么，我们如何确保从鱼苗开始，最终能够培育出我们所追求的成鱼？

答案是科学。

我们结合选择性繁殖、DNA分析、遗传资料以及长期的个体表现评估，根据数据进行繁殖选择，而不是单纯配对繁殖后等待结果。

另外一个经常被忽略的重要因素，就是大数法则以及规模经济。

当一个繁殖体系拥有多个繁殖场、大量亲鱼以及庞大的鱼苗数量，我们才有能力经过多代筛选、评估和保留优秀基因。

One man’s poison is another man’s treasure. Beauty truly lies in the eyes of the beholder.

Some hobbyists love the powerful, broad sumo body shape, while others prefer a lean, proportionate fish with elegant lines. At Imperial Arowana, we believe there is no single “perfect” Arowana—only the one that matches your expectations and preferences.

What matters most is not just how a fish looks today, but how it will develop over the years. Genetics determine the potential for its colour, rims, shine, scale quality, body shape, and overall presence.

Many people tell us they want to start with a young fish and watch it grow. We understand that sentiment. But remember, an Arowana can live for up to 30 years. There is plenty of time to enjoy the journey.

The challenge is that many lose patience. They begin searching for colour enhancers, stronger lighting, supplements, or shortcuts in the hope of achieving mature colours before the fish is ready. Nature doesn’t work that way.

Growing an Arowana is like waiting for fruit to ripen on a tree. You cannot rush the process without compromising the journey. If the genetics are there, time will reveal them.

So the choice is simple: have a little patience and enjoy watching your fish transform naturally, or if you prefer immediate results, choose a larger, more mature fish where its quality is already evident.

This is the result of years of hard work, patience, and selective breeding at Imperial Arowana.

Out of a batch of seven Blood Red frys, this particular baby has already shown exceptional promise. It was born with naturally red rims, and by just its second month, the intensity of the red has developed far more than its siblings. We believe this youngster has the genetics to display outstanding colour from a very young age.

This entire batch will undergo DNA profiling as part of our ongoing breeding programme. At the same time, we are preparing to select another breeding pond of Blood Reds to further strengthen the next generation of our bloodlines.

Every breeding decision we make today shapes the quality of tomorrow’s generation. There are no shortcuts—only careful selection, proven genetics, and years of dedication.

Who else but the owner should have the honour of releasing their prized Arowana into its newly prepared home?

At Imperial Arowana Breeding Farm, we believe fish keeping is about learning, sharing, and doing things the right way. Every delivery is an opportunity for us to guide our customers so that both the fish and the owner have the best possible start.

Before any fish leaves our farm, it undergoes a quarantine period to ensure it is healthy and ready for its new environment. Once the fish arrives, patience is key.

A newly introduced Arowana should not be fed on the first day. Give it at least 24 hours, or even longer if necessary, to acclimatise to its new surroundings. Allow the fish time to settle down, become familiar with the water parameters, lighting, and environment before offering its first meal.

A little patience during the first few days goes a long way in reducing stress and helping your Arowana thrive for many years to come.

Chosen from our new batch of Balloon Molly. 🎈🐟

As the name describes, a true Balloon Molly should have a round, compact body with a pronounced high hump, rather than a gentle slope along the back.

The short tail is another important characteristic. When swimming, the body and tail pivot from a defined point, giving it that distinctive ranchu-like swimming movement. A smoother “waist” and longer body can indicate a fish that does not carry the compact Balloon characteristics we look for.

At Imperial Arowana, we don’t simply select a fish because it looks good today. We look at whether the fish is worth the time, care and effort invested into growing it, and whether its structure and genetics give us confidence that it can develop into what we expect.

For us, breeding is always about selection, consistency and long-term expectations — not just what the fish looks like at the moment we pick it.

This is the standard we apply to our breeding work, whether it is Arowana or the ornamental fish we work with.
