Strawberry shortcake 🍰 🍓 A birthday cake for Sis and little niece.
Why is it called a shortcake? — the term 'short,' in baking, refers to anything that's crisp or crumbly, the result of generous fat (usually butter) cutting into the flour. The British version of a 'short cake' was traditionally a baked product that was crisp, buttery and crumbly. And paired with strawberries and cream, iy becomes strawberry shortcake.
The version we know of now is more of a Japanese/Asian version, with strawberries sandwiched in between light, fluffy sponges and cream.
