Cork or screw cap? Let’s open that debate.

Why do some bottles pop while others twist?

Cork has tradition on its side and allows tiny amounts of oxygen through over time, which can suit w**es made for ageing. But natural cork can occasionally cause cork taint, that dreaded damp-cardboard smell.

Screw caps create a very consistent seal, help keep w**es fresh and bright, and remove the risk of cork taint. That’s why plenty of seriously good w**emakers use them, particularly in Australia and New Zealand.

So no, screw cap doesn’t mean cheap w**e, and cork doesn’t automatically mean better w**e. The closure is simply another decision the w**emaker makes depending on the w**e they want you to drink.
