Halfway through service, nearing closing time.

Holding back my emotions, fighting back my tears after reading the email from the vet. Putting down calls from their customer service team, trying to act like everything was okay and continue serving.

Then I saw my laobei come back from the market.

I broke down. 😭

I told him, I want to go home already…

But I still had another 30 minutes before closing, and I hadn't even started cleaning up. 😣

This is hawker life.

A pet is family too. And no matter what happens in our own lives, sometimes we just have to hold it there first.

Put our emotions one side.
Continue taking orders.
Continue cooking.
Continue serving you all.

Later then say.
We can wait.

And I think this is something I've always wanted people to remember, people working in F&B are humans with emotions too.

Yes, when you're hungry, you're frustrated.
When you have waited too long, you're angry.
Your feelings are important.

But please don't forget，我们的情绪也是很重要的。

Sometimes you really don't know what the person standing behind that counter is going through while still trying to serve you like everything is normal.

I sent a video of Cloudy's eyes to the vet and was told that she has severe inflammation in both eyes and is at high risk of developing endophthalmitis, which could threaten her eyesight.

That moment my heart really sank.
I just wanted to go home.

I wanted to be beside her.
I wanted to see for myself that she was okay.

But at that moment, I couldn't just drop everything and leave.

So I held it in.

Sometimes we are serving you while our minds are somewhere else. Sometimes we're worried sick about something at home.

Sometime we just received news that completely broke us inside.
But when you walk up to our counter,
we still have to put all that aside and attend to you.

So please, sometimes do spare a thought for
the people working in F&B and the service line.

You never really know what someone is
going through behind that counter.

Ok.. 故事是这样的...

Customer B was visiting us for the first time and browsing through the menu.

He asked me, “How do I order? What do you recommend?”

Before I could even open my mouth, Customer A, who had already placed his order and was walking out.. suddenly interrupted:

“Try their Signature BTM!”

Ah Na and I immediately looked at each other like… 😑

真的勒，这已经不是第一次了，而且这样真的不是很好看。

Yes, I appreciate that you enjoy our Signature BTM enough to recommend it. But our menu has more than just Signature BTM leh. Other noodles buay jiak meh? 不可以这样嘛… Not everyone likes bee tai mak, and we would also like the chance to introduce the different options and help new customers choose something that suits them.

Put yourself in my shoes. If this were your shop and you were trying to introduce your food to a new customer, but I kept interrupting and answering on your behalf, you can properly introduce anot? You will tulan and ask me diam diam ?

Sometimes it’s really not that I want to be rude or behave like one KNN. But everything takes two hands to clap. We are all adults, and I believe you also understand what basic respect means, tio bo?

If I were Customer B, I would also pek chek. You heng.. Customer B was a very nice person and didn’t make a fuss.

So hor… thank you for supporting us, but please allow us to do our job. Ehh… arbo you come and take over my job lah 😮‍💨 , 累~

Not related, don’t flow the same blood… but somehow, some kind souls can make me feel more loved than I ever expected. 🥹❤️

Showering me with so much love, always encouraging me and giving me good vibes and motivating me whenever I feel like giving up 🥲🥰

Sometimes family isn’t only about blood, it’s also about the people who choose to care. ❤️

Today Laobei not around… and guess WHO IS IN DA HOUSE?! 😆
ieatishootipost dropped by with his wife!!! 😱

Then he mentioned because our Grab got ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and I was like… 真的吗？！😳 My side record is not ehhh 🤔 怎么回事？😂

Nevertheless, I still cannot believe we finally met each other after almost 9 years of me being a hawker! 🤗

If you dk… they actually used to stay around Teban too!!! But hor, that was WAYYYYY before I was even born lah 😂😂😂

And another fun fact , he’s Teochew too! 😆
潮州人 meet 潮州人… except this 潮州妹 can understand Teochew but barely can speak 🤣 Paiseh, 听得懂，讲不出 😂

Really nice talking to and finally meeting the legend behind all the food stories! 🤗 Been seeing ieatishootipost around the food scene for so many years, today finally 真人出现 in front of my stall 😂

What a small world ❤️

Firstly, MOST Grab drivers are 善解人意 ❤️ Esp during WEEKEND CROWD. They see us busy, wait patiently, we also rush whenever we can for them.

Today Grab literally DING DING DING 没有停. We alrdy set longer preparation time. BUT...

Sometimes drivers get 2 orders with DIFF orders. Usually we try to prioritise drivers with 2 pickups. Give & take mah. 但不要过分啦.

This driver collected 101 first, then asked Ah Na about 927F. Orders were covering the table and Ah Na could've missed it, so she told him don't have. 有错吗？

🧒🏻 我这里有，你不要跟我讲没有!

TMD 兄弟... 好好讲话不可以咩
讲好好会死啊！

And hello, LOOK AROUND. Grab orders everywhere, customers everywhere, weekend crowd everywhere. No patience, stay home shake leg lah!

Then he was told MULTIPLE TIMES to wait outside/at the side. Refused. Bro… 你也不是很小只，我的店也不是很大间. Stand right in the middle 拜神咩?!

Customers squeezing around him until I buay lun.

So I went out: Eh bro, go behind wait can? So many ppl walking, you stand here 🙄

🧒🏻 I already got 101, still have 927F. Why not ready?

Bro, 927F JUST CAME IN. I hadn't even pressed I'M READY.

SAME DRIVER ≠ SAME CUSTOMER ≠ SAME ADDRESS ≠ SAME ORDER TIME! BODOH OR WHAT.

Two orders assigned to you doesn't mean both customers pressed PLACE ORDER together ! KNN..

🧒🏻 Need wait how long?

Me: 20 mins.

🧒🏻 HUUUH?!

HUH SIMI HUH 😭 Preparation time is 30mins. Order just came in and we already wasted time arguing + asking you to move out of everyone's way.

Me: Want wait, wait. Want cancel, cancel.
🧒🏻 这样我不要等了，我 cancel.
Me: OK

Cindy chua, if u see this.. Im sorry 😭 , the driver so cb !

But because of this unnecessary scene, everything started jamming, dine-in, takeaway & Grab.

I eventually had to let go of a LARGE Grab order.
JUSTIN, SORRY!!! 😭 Regular customer somemore. I genuinely felt damn bad.
