Mistakes are powerful teachers, and this article on the Vulcan Post with co-founder Kai sheds light on how Insectta's journey from the first insect farm in Singapore to the first insect biotech company with proprietary biomaterial extraction processes wasn't as straightforward as most might think. "Insectta may have started as Singapore’s first insect-focused company, when Chua Kai-Ning and her co-founders saw Black Soldier Fly’s ability to grow efficiently on organic matter and would valorise agricultural and food waste into animal feed and fertiliser.

However, with limited space, expensive manpower, a lack of experience in agriculture, coupled with the challenges of supplying animal feed and fertilisers at the price point farmers required, the team quickly realised running an insect farm in Singapore is not an easy task.

Kai-Ning and her co-founders were left with two choices: move the farm out of Singapore, or pivot the business."

We had a great time at the Sustainable Food Camp 2023 last week!

Co-Founder Kai headed down to Cyberjaya and engaged in a quick fire pitch session, multiple roundtables discussing how we can make our food systems healthier and greener. 🍃

To end the event, we teamed up with AgriData Portal and Ecologgie Japan (株式会社エコロギー) for the business pitch competition on Day 2. Our "MSIA1TRILLION" concept was all about value multiplication via multi-industry integration and won us the grand prize of $10,000RM - sweet! 🏆

It's with great excitement that the Insectta Team is announcing a MAJOR update in our journey! 🐛

We've successfully commissioned Singapore's first facility manufacturing our high-value insect biomaterials. From day one, we've envisioned insects helping us create more than just feed and fertilisers. We know they can play a HUGE role in our biomedical, organic electronics, and personal wellness industries too! 💊

We're saying a grateful goodbye to our site at 60 Jalan Penjara, which has hosted thousands of people from all across the world in their learning of the amazing black soldier fly. ✋ Our new pilot facility in Jurong will be producing biomaterials like chitosan and melanin slated to one day be in your cosmetics, food, and more!
