And so it has come to this.
To my beloved HumanFish friends and family.
I am writing to let you know that HumanFish will be no more. We will close at the end of the month after a 15 year adventure.
"I thought you closed years ago!!??" - I hear you say. Well no.... but now sadly yes. It has been a tough couple of years and it is time for me to move on to other things. Well some of you know that I have been corrupting the minds of young people as a teacher for a little while now.... so I will devote myself to that with the energy that it deserves. I will still be in Slovenia, and will see you all around.
HumanFish will always be special to me. It is not about the beer, or the hops or the yeast. It never was. It was about the people.
It is my family who sometimes unknowingly took this risk with me, especially my wife Tanya who has so often taken the pain without the gain, but always with her bouncing enthusiasm. I am sorry Tanya for any problems I have caused you.
It is everyone who ever worked for HuamanFish over the years, as an employee, a student or just helping out in some way. You all made me so humble to have worked with you, and the effort you put in made this thing what it is. I hope you appreciate how grateful I am, and I hope you look back on your time working at Fish and smile.
To my customers, distributors and especially the bar staff, some of whom are now my friends, you were awesome and so underappreciated in the work that you do, and to the bar owners who especially early took a risk with us and put up with our failings for longer than I would have.
To our HumanFish drinkers.... our real customers. I hope you will look back fondly on all your plans for world domination brewed up after your 5th combat wombat on some random terrace somewhere.
To all of you.... thank you.
It has been an adventure that has shaped me in ways I could never have predicted 15 years ago. I have not loved every minute of it, but I have loved the journey, the creativity, the partnerships, the friendships.
I know I have not been easy to contact recently, so sorry for that also. I hope as time passes we can remember Fish for the fun times.
Thank you all, and see you in a bar somewhere. I will be working one last time in the taproom tonight if you want to stop by.
so long......
Matt
