Náš vinohrad sa nachádza na sútoku dvoch starovekých období zaľadnenia, z ktorých jedno tvorilo podoblasť Southern Valleys v Marlborough. V roku 2004 sa buržoázia rozhodla zasadiť pozemok Pinot Noir na vrchole jedného z týchto vetrom ovíjaných sprašových hrebeňov v Southern Valley – odvážne na čas, keď mnohé viniče zameriavali svoju pozornosť na plochejšie a ľahšie spravovateľné údolie Wairau.
Bola to práca z lásky, ale o 20 rokov neskôr, na tých istých pozemkoch, začíname vidieť vyvrcholenie nášho úsilia. a nedávno ohodnotili náš Waimaunga Pinot Noir 2024 a udelili mu lahodných 94 bodov: „Ohromujúci Pinot Marlborough ponúkajúci pozoruhodnú hodnotu za danú cenu, toto je doteraz najsilnejší prejav Pinot Noir z vinice Clos Henri na svahu kopca Delta, ktorý susedí s Južnými údoliami.“
Vinice, certifikované organicky a pestované za sucha, priniesli extrémnu koncentráciu a nízke výnosy vo veľmi suchom období El Niño v roku 2024.
Výsledné víno malo 10 – 20 % celých strapcov, divoko kvasilo vo veľkých dubových sudoch s jemným prečerpávaním a trojtýždňovou maceráciou po fermentácii. Následne celé zrelo vo francúzskych dubových sudoch (20 % nových).
Tmavý a naozaj zrelý, zrelý Pinot s koncentrovanou chuťou fialiek, černíc, čerešní a kávy, stvorený na zrenie. Jemný tanín obaluje veľmi pretrvávajúce čierne ovocie, ktoré sa prelieva cez rozširujúci sa záver zeme, grafitu a korenistého korenia.
Bude to vyžadovať ešte rok alebo dva zrenia v pivnici, aby sa prekonala jeho mladistvá pevnosť, ale v priebehu nasledujúceho desaťročia alebo aj dlhšie sa to môže ľahko vyvinúť.
Our vineyard is situated at the confluence of two ancient glaciation periods, one of which formed the Southern Valleys subregion of Marlborough. Back in 2004, the Bourgeois decided to plant a parcel of Pinot Noir at the top of one of these Southern Valley windblown loess ridges - audacious for the time, when may vitis were focusing their attention on the flatter, easier to manage Wairau Valley.
It's been a labour of love, but in 20 years on, in these same parcels, we're starting to see the culmination of our efforts. & recently rated our Waimaunga Pinot Noir 2024, giving it a delicious 94 points:
'A stunning Marlborough pinot offering remarkable value at the price, this is the most powerful expression of pinot noir yet from Clos Henri’s hillside vineyard on the Delta hill formation abutting the Southern Valleys.
Organically certified and dry farmed, the vines delivered extreme concentration and low yields in the very dry El Niño season of 2024.
The resulting wine had 10-20% whole bunch inclusion, was wild-fermented in large oak vats with gentle pump overs and three weeks of post-ferment maceration. It then aged entirely in French oak barrels (20% new).
A dark and seriously ripe, brooding pinot with concentrated violet, blackberry, cherry and coffee flavours, built for ageing. Mouth-coating but fine tannin encases the very persistent black fruit as it flows across the expanding finish of earth, graphite and peppery spice.
This will need another year or two of cellaring to move past its youthful firmness but can easily develop over the coming decade or more. (Diam)'
