15th April, Mon's Songkran Day
This Songkran, our family comes together to enjoy a traditional Thai–Mon dish—Khanom Jeen Sao Nam with beautiful sunset.

Khanom Jeen Sao Nam is a traditional Thai dish from the central region, influenced by royal Thai cuisine. It is especially enjoyed during the hot season, as its light and refreshing taste helps cool the body.

The term “Sao Nam” means to rinse or gently mix with water—here referring to chilled coconut milk that adds a soft fragrance and a refreshing touch.

“Khanom Jeen” comes from the Mon language “Khanom Chin,” meaning “cooked rice noodles” or “finished noodles,” reflecting its roots in Mon culture, which has long been part of Thai culinary heritage.

The traditional recipe includes:
• Khanom jeen (fermented rice noodles)
• Chilled coconut milk
• Chopped pineapple
• Ground dried shrimp (or toasted tofu / fermented soybean powder)
• Finely chopped fresh ginger
• Fresh garlic
• Lime juice (or calamansi)
• Fish sauce (or soy sauce)
• Sliced fresh chili
• Sugar (or natural sweetness from pineapple)

The flavor is gently sweet, tangy, and slightly salty, with a fragrant and refreshing finish.

A wholesome dish that reflects the Thai way of life—simple, mindful, and in harmony with nature.

สงกรานต์นี้ ครอบครัวของเรามารวมตัวกัน ท่ามกลางแสงอาทิตย์ยามเย็น พร้อมขนมจีนซาวน้ำ อาหารไทย-มอญแบบดั้งเดิม อาหารสุขภาพคลายร้อน

คำว่า “ซาวน้ำ” หมายถึงการล้างหรือคลุกด้วยน้ำ ซึ่งในที่นี้คือกะทิเย็นๆ ที่ช่วยเพิ่มความหอมและความชุ่มฉ่ำ

ส่วนคำว่า “ขนมจีน” มาจากภาษามอญ “คนอมจิน” (Khanom Chin) แปลว่า “เส้นสุก” หรือ “เส้นที่ทำเสร็จแล้ว” สะท้อนรากวัฒนธรรมมอญที่สืบทอดและแพร่หลายในไทยมาตั้งแต่โบราณ

💚 A New Season Begins 🌿

The first raised bed of this year is complete. The soil is settled, the structure is ready, and life has quietly begun. In a few days, the second bed will follow — another space prepared to receive new growth.

In this first bed, we have planted a mix of vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers. Some are new, while others have been gently moved from last year’s raised bed, continuing their journey in a new place.

The soil itself carries a story of time and care. We blend it by hand, using one-year-old compost, dried horse manure, coconut husk, mountain soil, and our own natural fertilisers. No chemicals — only what nature provides and what we patiently prepare.

Each layer holds intention. Each bed is built slowly, with respect for the land.

This is how our growing season begins — quietly, simply, and in rhythm with nature. 🌱

แปลงปลูกแบบยกแปลงแปลงแรกของปีนี้เสร็จสมบูรณ์แล้ว ดินพร้อม โครงสร้างพร้อม และชีวิตเล็ก ๆ ได้เริ่มต้นขึ้นอย่างเงียบ ๆ อีกไม่กี่วัน แปลงที่สองก็จะพร้อมสำหรับการปลูกต่อไป

ในแปลงแรกนี้ เราปลูกทั้งผัก สมุนไพร และดอกไม้กินได้ บางชนิดเป็นต้นใหม่ และบางส่วนย้ายมาจากแปลงของปีที่แล้ว เพื่อให้เติบโตต่อในพื้นที่ใหม่

ดินของเรามีเรื่องราวของเวลาและความใส่ใจ เราผสมด้วยมือ จากปุ๋ยหมักอายุหนึ่งปี มูลม้าแห้ง ขุยมะพร้าว ดินจากภูเขา และปุ๋ยธรรมชาติที่เราหมักเอง โดยไม่ใช้สารเคมี — มีเพียงสิ่งที่ธรรมชาติมอบให้ และสิ่งที่เราค่อย ๆ เตรียมไว้

ทุกชั้นของดินมีความตั้งใจ ทุกแปลงถูกสร้างขึ้นอย่างช้า ๆ ด้วยความเคารพต่อผืนดิน

We have many Millettia brandisiana Kurz at our farm. 🌿

A tall tropical tree species in the legume family (Fabaceae), native to Southeast Asia.
It produces distinctive purple flowers and plays a role in supporting soil fertility through nitrogen fixation.

Flowering season: typically blooms in the late dry season to early rainy season (around February–May).

This tree is relatively rare to find and provides generous, cooling shade.

Young leaves are edible — in Thailand, they are often eaten fresh with chili paste or added to Thai curry soups.

A functional forest species contributing to ecosystem balance and biodiversity. 🌱
