Tan the owner of Elephant Cafe by Tan graduated university as
a civil engineer and forged a successful career consulting on high-end private villas. At heart though she has always been a foodie. She loves to cook and to share food and happiness with friends and loved ones. She opened Elephant Cafe in 2005 as a sideline to her civil engineering consultancy, a simple and comfortable place where she would relax with friends, family and clients. Enjoy conversation and experiment creating amazing cakes, drinking great coffee and eating yummy ice-cream. After a few years more and more clients were discovering the Elephant Cafe and began asking Tan to cook lunch or dinner for them. So in 2008 she added pizza, sandwiches and some simple Thai dishes to the menu. It was about this time that Tan realised that her heart was more in her Cafe than her Civil Engineering consultancy, and although engineering was more financially rewarding, she needed to make a choice between making lots of money as an engineer, or doing what she loved. Love won the day and over the years more and more clients came, and returned. In 2012 Tan decided to put up a sign with an Elephant to represent the cafe name, Thailand, and because the elephant is regarded as a lucky symbol. By 2015 the cafe had become a full restaurant with holiday-makers returning year after year to enjoy delicious traditional Thai dishes that Tan learnt at the side of her grandmother and mother. Now the restaurant serves Thai, Western, Seafood dishes with a range of cocktails. The menu changes every year as Tan explores and discovers more great dishes, and retains the most popular choices of her hundreds of loyal customers.
