Recently,
CANABANGKA hosted a visitor from India. He told us he booked a 2-day trip to Thailand, flying here specifically to see us.
His burning question was about a persistent cultivation issue. This young man is a well-researched grower who uses nutrients correctly, resulting in beautiful, large, and dense flowers. Yet, the problem that had troubled him for so long was: 'My buds are beautiful, but after drying... the smell is completely gone. What am I doing wrong?'
🤫 The Secret Terpenes Won’t Tell You
The crucial step many growers overlook is the post-harvest process, especially 'Drying'. Terpenes (the compounds responsible for aroma/flavor) are highly volatile molecules that degrade rapidly when exposed to unsuitable conditions.
A bud dried improperly is like baking herbs at high heat—the precious fragrance and desirable flavors are almost entirely driven off!
🔑 3 Key Variables to 'Lock In' and Preserve Terpenes
Based on CANABANGKA's experience, here are the 3 critical variables you must control to guarantee that the aroma stays locked into the flower until it reaches the user:
1. 🌡️ Temperature: Control the environment to stay within 18°C – 21°C (65°F – 70°F). Drying in a cooler room significantly slows the evaporation of Terpenes.
2. 💧 Relative Humidity (RH): Maintain an RH between 55% – 65%. This allows the flower to dry slowly and evenly. If it dries too fast, the aroma will dissipate, and the flavor will be harsh.
3.💨 Air Flow: Requires a gentle, consistent circulation to continuously vent the released moisture.
When our young Indian grower learned the importance of consistent temperature and humidity, he had a massive 'Aha!' moment, confirming what had been missing from his process. He vowed to test these secrets immediately and promised to return with an update.
CANABANGKA is confident that if he follows these steps... the smell will absolutely stick!
