Claire and I decided to join a workshop making herbal ball and inhalers at แฮงตึง Hang Tueng Farmstay and workshop Chiang Mai. This was a lovely experience with beautiful surrounds and cute farm animals! They offer many other workshops and activities so hopefully we will be able to join in again one day 🙂 They also have farmstay accommodation which would be a beautiful place to stay and not too far from the city. Best of both worlds!

Took advantage of the beautiful weather to get out and hike the Monks Trail to Wat Pha Lat Temple. The 45 minute hike along a tree lined dirt path was marked by orange cloth from Monks robes to reach the temple. The temple sits at the top of stairs lined with two dragons at the edge of a waterfall. A beautiful and peaceful place with views overlooking Chiang Mai city. Highly recommended to visit and Alex still says they this is his favourite temple so far!

Singapore for New Year! 🎆

Shopping, museums, street art, fireworks, gardens and a theme park!
All amazing, though the kids will always remember Universal Studios Singapore as their favourite place! Surprisingly we did get some relaxing in here too. Hotel Boss was lovely with fantastic amenities, as well as being central to everything including public transport on its doorstep.

It was lovely to have Nana and Pa along with us for the past couple of weeks, but said goodbye here for now 😊

On Boxing Day afternoon we made our way up to Pai for a few days. Pai is a small town near the Myanmar border and now mostly thrives on tourism as a hippie destination. We visited Pai on a trip a few years ago, and found it to be largely unchanged with the same great night market street and atmosphere. Scenic viewpoints, waterfalls and hot springs are also here to enjoy. The trip from Chiang Mai to Pai alone is beautiful, although long and winding through the mountains. It is only about 130kms from Chiang Mai, however it takes at least 3 hours winding the 762 road curves!. Well worth it though for the character and creativity of Pai town and the beautiful surrounding countryside 😎

More elephants!!
On Boxing Day we visited Elefin Farm & Cafe เอเลฟิน ฟาร์ม แอนด์ คาเฟ่ A beautiful place for a coffee, but especially great because you get to feed the elephants! You pay about 100 baht for a basket of bananas and sugar cane to hand feed the elephants up close. If you’re lucky, you may even get a trunk cuddle!

Santa found us in Thailand!!
Christmas was celebrated well with breakfast and presents, coffee at Forest Bake, followed by a walk along the river to lunch at Centara Riverside Hotel Chiang Mai. Definitely Christmas with a difference with no work required! We just needed to make our way to a yummy buffet lunch with everything Christmassy that you could want, live music and kids activities. It was all very too easy for us to finsh the day in a food coma😆

Visit to World's First Elephant Hospital by FAE and Lampang markets.

Friends of the Asian Elephant (FAE) is a 200 acre facility that includes elephant infirmaries, an operating area and a nursery for baby elephants. It is funded only through donations which they use to provide free care to the elephants at the hospital and provide accommodation for their mahouts (keepers) during the elephants stay. Soraida and her staff have treated nearly 4,000 Asian Elephants for everything from illnesses, knife wounds, gunshot wounds, car accidents, logging accidents and land mines. Since it opened, FAE has treated 15 elephant landmine victims. In 2008, Baby Mosha received the world’s first elephant prosthetic. Motala followed in 2009. An amazing place!

Not far from here is the city of Lampang. It is much smaller and than Chiang Mai, but well worth visiting for its great street markets and relaxed atmosphere. A nice stop for dinner and an explore before heading back to Chiang Mai.

Beautiful bakery just next door to us, Forest Bake, has been a frequent favourite! They certainly did one disappoint over the Christmas week with activities, flea market in the gardens, daily live jazz performances and of course delicious food 😋
Gingerbread making is a bit of a tradition for our family at Christmas time but was going to be a bit difficult in our little condo this year. Luckily the amazing Forest bake had gingerbread decorating workshops for us to join!
