WE ARE HIRING — Administration & Finance Officer

Something is growing here.

More members. Bigger ambitions. More farming families counting on us to keep the promises we make.

That kind of growth needs a backbone — someone who keeps the books clean, the filings on time, and the systems sound. Someone who frees our field teams to stay where they belong: in the fields, with farmers.

Because a well-run organisation is not paperwork. It is the reason a farming family can trust that we will still be standing beside them next season.

Are you good with numbers?
Do you get real satisfaction from things being tidy, tracked and on time?
Are you organised by instinct rather than by effort?
And do you want those skills to serve something you actually believe in?

Then we would like to hear from you.

Ten colleagues, not a department. Real ownership of your own domain. And work whose consequences you can see with your own eyes, from your desk to the mountains.

FLOODS RELIEF — Pai & Muang Noi

Your words reached us. The comments, the messages, the quiet private notes sent at strange hours. Thank you. Now, as the emotions settle into something quieter and heavier, the material reality remains: disaster, mud, loss. None of that waits for feelings to pass.

Damien was with his friend Sarah this morning. On Sunday, at 1am, she woke not to an alarm — but to the sound of water. Not the gentle kind. The kind that says: grab your baby and leave. Her son is one year old. Her house sat in a meter of water. She escaped with nothing else.

When the flood pulled back, it left mud where her floor used to be — and most of her belongings buried under it. Her mother, Mae Thiamjan, showed us photos of her rice paddies and organic garden. What remains of them. Not much. This is not commercial wealth destroyed. This is a year's food. This is soil built over years, seeds saved season after season, knowledge accumulated in the hands — and no insurance will ever replace any of it.

Here is what you can do:
📦 Donate goods — Mattresses, blankets, bed sheets, cooking stoves, basic necessities. PM us with what you have and can give. We'll organize a drop-off point and handle logistics this afternoon.
💸 Donate money — PM me and I'll send you a bank account. Every baht goes directly to flood relief. Nothing else.
🙌 Give your time — Tuesday and Wednesday next week, we head to Muang Noi to help farmers clear their homes and land, and salvage what can still be saved. More than labor, it is a message: you are not alone. PM me if you want to join — and especially if you have a car.
🏗️ The bigger picture — Pai Seedlings Foundation is coordinating with the army and local government on larger-scale interventions: bridges, riverbeds, preventive work, crops loss compensations. That is already in motion but will take time.
Community is not a word. It is this — showing up when the water has gone and the mud remains. Urgency today is not just a feeling.

Thank you. For your words, and for the actions we can now build from them. Voir moins

This week, something quietly historic happened in Mae Hong Son, unnoticed: we brought back to life the regional organic PGS certification came back to life.

And we want to honor Pratchawin Somsak who has spearheaded this long process for Pai Seedlings Foundation and for the benefit all of all the organic farmers in the Province.

It's not a stamp handed down from above — but a Participatory Guarantee System, built from the ground up. Farmers, NGOs, government officers at local, provincial and national levels, the health department, business representatives, consumers — all in one room, all leaning toward the same fragile, beautiful idea: that a healthy local food system is something we grow together, and can all benefit from.

Which is why we need to bow, publicly, to Pi Zack — who held all these worlds in his hands and refused to let them drift apart. Coordinating people who rarely sit at the same table is its own kind of agriculture. Patient. Relational. Unglamorous. Essential.

But here is the paradox we keep turning over — Farmers need certification to earn a fair price. Yet certification arrives only after years of regenerative practice. The reward comes last. The risk comes first.

So who begins? Who rebuilds their soil, rewires their whole way of farming, and stands against the status quo — before a single baht of that reward is guaranteed?

Only those moved by something deeper than a business plan.

It reminds us of Joanna Macy's Active Hope: to commit to a path not because it is likely to succeed, but because you feel, in your bones, that it is right and good.
That is what we witness. People restoring life to the Living before the Living could pay them back.

This certification is one step — one of many — in the long, uncertain work of recreating regenerative food systems and dignity for those who feed us and care for our environment. Necessary, yes. But necessity carries no guarantee of success.

Patient, we are.
Yet that uncertainty weighs heaviest when a farmer carries it alone.

So let this be an invitation, not an order. Join the movement — not tomorrow, but at your very next meal. Choose local. Choose organic. Turn your plate into an act of Active Hope.
The soil began without us. The least we can do is catch up. 🌿

Big thumbs up to Damien P. Masselis Lyse Kong Methaporn Chotchatbovon Tatcha TC Sutthidechsoontorn and all the other people involved in this slow and quiet transition.

Between 5,000 and 10,000 trees will go into the ground in 2026.

In 21 agroforestry plots — one rai each, one farmer each — a multi-strata system is being established for the first time on Karen highland farmland in Muang Noi.

High stratum: mango, lychee, other fruit trees ~ 25 / rai. Species that will take years to mature but will produce for decades.

Medium stratum: coffee, lime, cacao ~ 50-100/rai. nitrogen-fixers, biomass producers.

Low stratum and ground cover: pineapple ~ 1000

Support species include pigeaon peas, leukaena, glyceridia, mexican sunflower = biomass production, protective shade, nitrogen fixing. They are kept at the ideal height depending on system maturity and time of year. ~ 500/rai

These are not plantations.

They are designed ecosystems — layered, diverse, productive, and permanent.

Each rai holds approximately 25 high-canopy trees, 50 medium-stratum species, and up to 200 support plants.

A tree planted this year will still be standing — still feeding a family, still sequestering carbon, still holding the hillside — long after we are gone.

That's the kind of infrastructure that doesn't appear on a quarterly report.

But it might be the most important thing we do.

Three years ago, we were 10.

Ten farmers in a Karen village in the highlands of Mae Hong Son, willing to try something different. Willing to trust a process without a guaranteed outcome.

Today, we are more than 50.

And behind those 50 farmers are households — husbands and wives, children, elders — which means the Pai Seedlings Foundation's programs now touch an estimated 200 to 300 lives directly.

That number didn't come from a campaign. It came from results.

When your neighbour grows organic garlic and start getting better results than you did with chemicals — you pay attention. When a community enterprise forms and keeps its own fund — you want in.

When the soil starts recovering and your headaches stop — you believe.

We don't recruit farmers. We demonstrate. And demonstration, slowly, becomes a movement.

The next chapter of this story is being written in 125 rai of highland farmland in 2026 — transitioning together.

Thank you to Damien P. Masselis, Lyse Kong, Pi Boom, Pi Zack, Pi Maka and the whole community entreprise that we build over the years, who are investing so much time and effort into making it possible.

Thank you to Ecca family foundation for their financial, strategy and human support all along the way. Thank you to Mana Impact, and Patti Chu for their financial support to build a bigger team behind the farmers, we couldn' go forward without you.
