When the foundation is solid, the “advanced” posture isn’t a giant leap—it is simply the next logical step.

Master the basics until the difficult becomes familiar. Then the advanced requires only a little more effort because it is new, not because it is impossible.

Decades in the Same Posture

There are postures I’ve practiced for decades.

Not because I’m trying to “achieve” them anymore, but because every time I return to them, something has changed.

The body changes.
The breath changes.
The mind changes.
And so does the person practicing.

A posture you have done a thousand times is never exactly the same posture.

Years of repetition teach you to notice what you once couldn’t feel—the smallest shifts in balance, tension, breath, attention, and effort.

This is one of the gifts of a long practice:

You stop chasing novelty and start discovering depth.

Keep returning.

The familiar can still teach you something new.

Perseverance is contagious.

When a posture becomes difficult, it’s tempting to give up—not only because your body wants to come out, but because everyone around you is struggling too.

But sometimes your perseverance is part of the practice for everyone in the room.

Stay. Breathe. Work through the discomfort. Show the person beside you what it looks like to remain committed when things get difficult.

You’re not practicing only for yourself.

Your discipline gives others permission to find theirs.

Stay in the practice.
Lead by example.

Kurmasana 🐢

Kurmasana is a lesson in patience, surrender, and steady preparation.

It isn’t a posture you can force your way into. The depth comes from years of developing the fundamentals—strong legs, open hips, flexible hamstrings, a stable breath, and a mind that knows how to stay calm when the body meets resistance.

The tortoise withdraws from the outside world and turns inward.

That is the practice.

Less forcing.
Less distraction.
More awareness.
More patience.
More trust in the process.

Advanced postures are rarely about trying harder to achieve the shape.

They are about practicing so consistently that, eventually, the body and mind are ready for it.
