In the first half of 2026 alone, 40 schools in Timor-Leste purchased new Abundant Water filters—bringing the total number of active schools using our filters to over 100! On top of that, 24 schools invested in replacement parts to maintain their filters and keep the clean water flowing.

The best thing is, these purchases were locally led and funded directly through the Ministry of Education’s national school feeding program. By prioritizing local ownership, Abundant Water is leading the way in sustainable, lasting clean water access.

In March, Abudant Water installed water filters in 15 schools in the Loes area. For the first time, all primary school students in an entire subdistrict in Timor-Leste will have access to clean, filtered drinking water in their own schools! Previously, students had to bring their own water to school or drink untreated water from the tap, posing risks to their health.

Last week, the Abundant Water team visited Kuluhun Primary School in Dili—one of the first schools we supported in 2019. Nearly seven years later, they’re still using their water filters. We’re encouraged to see the school continuing to maintain their filters and purchase replacement parts year after year—clear proof of the value of clean, affordable drinking water for students and teachers.

School director Ms. Angela Fernandes said, “The benefit of using these filters is we can save money, and we don’t need to go out and buy gallons, so we save time too. Also, they’re quick and easy for students to access clean drinking water.”

How about the health benefits? Director Angela told us, “Before installing these filters, the students drank water from wherever, so they often got sick with stomach aches or coughing. Since getting the filters, the students are drinking clean water and we’re truly free from that, the students don’t get sick anymore.”

Meet some of our new customers! Before getting their filters, they were purchasing water in gallons or plastic bottles, which is expensive and contributes to plastic waste in the environment. With a filter, they can now access clean drinking water in their own homes. After seeing his new filter, customer Chris asked, “Why doesn’t everyone in Timor use this product?”
