Dear wine enthusiasts,

Today, I’m excited to delve into the captivating realm of orange wines, a unique and ancient winemaking style that’s gaining popularity among wine lovers around the world. If you haven’t explored orange wines yet, you’re in for a treat!

What Are Orange Wines?

🍊 Definition: Orange wines, also known as skin-contact or amber wines, are made from white grapes fermented with their skins. This process gives the wine its distinctive amber or orange hue and a complex, bold flavor profile.

Tasting Notes:

🍑 Aromas: Expect intriguing aromas of citrus fruits, nuts, honey, and spices. These wines often have a rich, deep bouquet that evolves with each sip.

🌿 Palate: On the palate, orange wines are full-bodied and tannic, with flavors ranging from dried apricots and orange peel to almonds and earthy spices. They offer a delightful blend of freshness and complexity.

Perfect Pairings:

🍽️ Orange wines pair wonderfully with a variety of dishes:

• Spicy Foods: Think Indian or Thai cuisine, where the bold flavors complement the wine’s robust profile.
• Cheese: Strong, aged cheeses like blue cheese or aged cheddar work beautifully.
• Hearty Dishes: Roasted meats, stews, and earthy vegetables like mushrooms and squash.

My Personal Experience:

Recently, I enjoyed a bottle of Qvevri from Vazisubani Estate at the Georgian restaurant Iberia in The Hague. Its rich flavors and unique character were a perfect match for the spicy dishes and strong cheeses we savored, making the evening truly memorable. 🍽️🍷

Where to Start:

For those new to orange wines, I recommend starting with varieties like Ribolla Gialla or Pinot Grigio, traditionally produced in regions like Friuli in Italy and Kakheti in Georgia.

🍷 Don’t miss out on exploring this fascinating style of wine. Cheers to new discoveries and unforgettable wine experiences! 🍇🍷

(RUS ⬇️)

Exploring the world of champagne at Fête du Champagne et Vins in Rembrandtpark was a true delight! 🍾✨ Here are some of the champagnes I had the pleasure of tasting:

1. Pommery Brut Rosé - €19.00 per glass
2. Vignoble la Baume-Cremant de Limoux - €9.50 per glass
3. Philipponnat Champagne aoc Extra Brut “Blanc de Noirs” - €25.75 per glass
4. Philipponnat Champagne aoc Rosé Brut - €21.75 per glass

🍇🍷 The event was an incredible opportunity to broaden my knowledge, refine my palate, and connect with industry experts. The diverse range of champagnes offered a deep dive into different styles and expressions, enriching my appreciation for this exquisite beverage. Big players like Taittinger , Pommery , Piper Heidsieck , and Bollinger were there, showcasing their best selections.

🦪🧀🥩 Adding to the experience were the fantastic food courts, offering a variety of choices like oysters, charcuterie, cheese, BBQ, and more. Everything was beautifully arranged and delicious, perfectly complementing the champagnes.

💸 However, the steep prices per glass were a bit of a drawback, making it a pricey indulgence that might not fit everyone’s budget. While the luxury and quality were undeniable, the cost did take a bit of the sparkle out of the experience.

✨ Despite this, the vibrant atmosphere, the chance to meet fellow enthusiasts, and the sheer joy of discovering new favorites made it all worthwhile. If you’re passionate about wine and champagne, events like these are definitely worth a visit! 🥂
