竹鄉果園位於彰化縣二林鎮外竹社區，外竹這地名的由來，起因於地處竹塘鄉的邊埵地帶，古早時候，竹塘鄉區域因為遍佈許許多多長滿蘆竹的池塘，因此移居此地的先民就將這個地頭取做竹塘，意思就是長著蘆竹的池塘，而位於與二林鎮接攘的城郊地區就取做外蘆竹塘，後來戶政規劃重整之後，為精簡地名就改稱為外竹，而外竹因為是阮思念的故鄉，故名─竹鄉。
