‘Eggsciting’ shadows and eggshells for an otherwise suddenly dreary and gray day today.

Temp dropped by 10 degrees overnight and I suppose that means winter is actually here. Rather odd given it’s at the tail end of November.

Was throughly thrilled to get these different hued eggs and even more intrigued by then when the egg farmer shared that these chickens were also fed goji berries/wolfberries which supposedly boosts eggs nutrients. Another visible difference is that the yolks will have a rich yellow colour.

Carrot cake with chocolate glaze kinda day today 😶‍🌫️

Brazilian style carrot cake - just🥕🍫and no nuts allowed. Which curiously I’ve noticed that most cake recipes on Brazilian recipe sites tend to involve blenders instead of actual mixers. Which kind of made me realise that perhaps due to economic and spatial constraints that a use of a blender in the Brazilian household kitchen is more common.

Personally, a bit less fussy to clean up afterwards too 🫣

Anyways, hope everyone is doing well and thanks for sticking around. For those that celebrate Thanksgiving, hope it was good?

Extra melty spicy grilled cheese is the current craving I need to satisfy.

The season changes and with it brings other produce for us all to enjoy once more. This time my favourite long green peppers are back and they are a treat when just charred with salt & pepper.

They aren’t super spicy so for those who aren’t a fan of the heat - these don’t pack much. Although you might on occasion get one in a bunch that is 🔥

Here these peppers are called 糯米椒 / sticky rice pepper or 青龍椒 / dragon pepper? Ever curious these unique names..

An afternoon tea break with an abundance of scones and Taiwan grown tea..it’s a been a minute since I went for some high afternoon tea. Finding fantastic scones that aren’t too dry and true English clotted cream to pair with them is a true delight.

Finally found a great pretence to crack open the jar of chestnut jam that sent and I am already obsessed with it. The jar might not last until October! 🤤

A good challenge usually gets the creative muse going, something about having to decipher a prompt and did a great series on colour theory. To really get that know-how out this is my entry for

I’ve heard from others that they tend to struggle with brown food or shades of brown. Personally I don’t find them too hard to work with. My go-to is to balance with cooler tones or have some sort of element that pops out in colour to balance the warmth but for this particular image I went on for a play with monochromatic tones and as Rachel put it, to go beyond just the food and think intuively to the propping elements. The colour story that follows the image.

How well do you know your micro greens? Which one is this one?

As with every summer I get smoothie cravings and knowing where to get locally produced micro greens like these from is perfect for a quick green juice or a lazy tossed salad (their sprouts can be found at CitySuper markets while their actual shops sell mostly clean beauty care).

Btw, if you’re thinking or guessing that these broccoli sprouts, you are correct! 🙌

If I share my work on my normal feed, does it even matter anymore that my actual followers don’t even see it? A bit of a vicious cycle with feeling the conflict of increasing the awareness and also making sure those of you that already follow me are still “into” the content. alright, end my minor rant..must take sprouts and make a new concoction in my blender!

When you order one and get two. These twin doughs are a twofold deep fried delight when you have a doughnut craving..crispy crust and a QQ bounce when you bite into it.

Been a while I shared a street snack and this was one snack I’ve had only once! It’s a carby temptation that most can’t resist and only found around Taiwan.

Enjoying summer fruits as an ice pop is extremelly fulfilling when it’s 38C and over 70% humidity 😰

Putting two of my summer favourite Taiwanese fruits into a snack-able refresher. Taiwanese guava and passion fruit with a good dose of coconut water, I’m pretty sure that’s going to stave off any “fiery” heat that one might catch from being out in the sun too long.

Been wanting to make and style some iced desserts lately, have to do it while the heat doesn’t inspire me to turn the oven on. As always, finding what’s available at the local market brings me bounty and inspiration.

Quick question, let’s see if you can sense it out. Natural or artificial lighting? I’ll put the answer in the stories!

It’s happy hour somewhere right?

Moving along with that orange theme, an Old Fashioned.

This image I took last year but I decided to freshen up the editing a bit, giving it a bit more of a pop of colour to the orange peel and also to the whisky chill.

My next expectation to reshoot this cocktail is to actually manage to craft some clear ice and get that translucent glisten in a whiskey glass. I was reminded last night that being a food photographer isn’t just being comfortable with your camera skills but there so many other aspects that embrace it. Especially if I’m not working with a food stylist, I will do the styling myself where it usually leads me to learning something new.

Being creative is this type of path, staying open to receiving and perceiving the unknown. To then re-shape the information and reinterpret in your on vision. It’s not something you can pick up, not like getting a high end pencil and suddenly writing more eloquently. Creativity is a constant process that occurs in the conscious and subconscious.

Summer tempeh soba salad that you don’t want to share…mainly because the marinated tempeh has all sorts of umami that you only get after an overnight soak.

Dunno about how has everyone’s summer been going. How has it been? A bit less weird than the last 2 years? I’ve cut back a bit on sharing here and even on the captions as IG was briefly broken but I think its also still changed from what it was. Am I alone on this?

Not going to rant too much here!

Just letting you know that I’ve been introverting and that I’m very grateful for the support and the DMs I get from those that follow me. There is just a bit of too much on my plate this summer that I’m trying not to spread myself too thin and give myself a burn out. Food photography is something that I truly love to do but there are bouts that my muse needs to just linger in stillness before popping out and feeding me with inspiration once again.

Which is why I’ll be seeking out to the outdoors and let the world that surrounds me nourish me. Refreshing my vision so that I can rediscover the delectable beauty that I view from my camera lens. Again, am I alone on this feeling?
