Melac Agri project is a non-profit organization registered under the laws of Uganda with the aim of creating self-sustaining and productive communities through training farmers modernized agriculture. In the first phase of the project, we have been privileged to mobilize and work with a team of 28 focused and determined team of farmers from different villages of Busitema Sub County, who were later
given starter up agricultural inputs after graduation from the program to increase on production and hence increasing household’s income. Currently a team of 30 farmers which includes youths, women, men and the elderly are being trained on modernized farming practices who will then graduate at the end of the planting season to go and demonstrate the same at their individual farms. With approximately 5 acres of land, planted with ground nuts, maize and soya beans, we are able to train farmers in seed selection and use of improved seeds, proper planting and spacing, fertilizer application, pest and disease identification and control and post-harvest handling every planting season. We have also been able to assess our project performance since its inception by contracting an external evaluator to measure results and respectively give an independent report to the stakeholders.
