Hardrock Farm is a venture located 30 kilometers north of Gulu town in the northern region of Uganda. Set in a picturesque, pebble strewn, relatively remote, decidedly underdeveloped part of Uganda, the farm is sited just a few stone throws away from the legendary Sir Samuel Bakers’ fort Patiko in Ajulu Village in Patiko Sub-county and is under supervision by a Dutch and Ugandan affiliates. The present principal aim of Hardrock Farm besides becoming a regional learning center for bio-agricultural and animal management is to be a catalyzer for regional progress and engagement through producing quality poultry, eggs, pigs, animal feed, maize, rice and other crops in a comprehensive, modern, sustainable, biological and ecologically friendly manner. The Hardrock Farm is presently in its development stage.
The Hardrock Farm is one of very few somehow large undertakings in a poor, underprivileged, war-torn region of Uganda. Through this enterprise the owners wish to provide locals with the opportunity of jobs and gaining knowledge and know-how of organizing a farming enterprise and of using smart ecological methods through sharing information and knowledge with learnt individuals.
When procured the range consisted of untouched savanna grassland due to years of revolt by the Lord’s resistance army. For that matter there was over a 20 year pause in agricultural practices in the area which circumstance formed a very fertile soil around. The area is generally gentle slopes with wide valleys, Alluvium soil, and large underground water deposits. The Hardrock Farm is easily accessible from Gulu and Pabbo and the Uganda highway network through two properly maintained gravel roads. The surrounding municipal consists mainly of small scale farming communities and the Hardrock Farm is conveniently located for transport vehicles to and fro South Sudan.
