Coffee does not begin as a brown bean. It begins as a ripe red cherry.

Inside each coffee cherry are layers of skin, pulp, mucilage and parchment that surround and protect the green coffee beans. During processing, these outer layers are carefully removed before the beans are dried, roasted, ground and brewed.

This is the fruit behind every cup of Elgon Blend, from the slopes of Mt Elgon to the coffee in your hands.

Which part of the coffee cherry did you already know about?

What is a French press, and why is it a good place to begin? ☕

A French press is a simple coffee brewer that uses hot water and a mesh plunger to separate the brewed coffee from the grounds. You do not need a machine or paper filters.

For one cup, try:

☕ 20g of coarsely ground Elgon Blend
💧 360ml of hot water
⏱️ Brew for four minutes
👇 Press the plunger down slowly, then pour immediately

The result is a rich, full-bodied cup that you can easily prepare at home.

Have you ever brewed coffee with a French press?

Good coffee at home does not have to be complicated. So, why brew it yourself?

Because when you brew at home, you control the cup. You decide how strong it should be, how much coffee and water to use, and the method that suits your taste. You also learn how grind size, water temperature and brewing time affect flavour.

That is why Elgon Blend is launching our Home Brew Series this month. We will explore different ways of preparing coffee, one method at a time.

We will begin with simple methods that require no machine, then explore the French press, V60, Chemex, moka pot, AeroPress, cold brew, espresso and traditional brewing methods from different cultures.

For every method, we will show you what you need, the right measurements, the brewing steps and the common mistakes to avoid.

Follow the series and discover the brewing method that works best for you.
