Everybody produces waste. But where does it all go?

Every farm, household, market and food-processing business generates organic waste.
Much of it ends up in landfills or is discarded, even as farmers struggle with the rising cost of agricultural inputs and declining soil health.

We're working with the WDT Community Hub to change what happens to that waste.
Our planned Mobile Bio-Converter (MBC) will transform locally collected organic waste into biofertiliser that can return to farming communities.
The model is designed to create value at both ends, communities can earn from supplying organic waste, while farmers gain access to a productive input for their soil.

One Mobile Bio-Converter is designed to process approximately 1,750 tonnes of organic waste annually, producing around 963 tonnes of biofertiliser.
What was once discarded could become part of the next harvest.

Every harvest begins beneath our feet.

This World Fertiliser Day, we’re highlighting a solution to soil degradation in Uganda.

Through Jack’s Secret and WDT Community Hub, we’re working to turn organic waste into opportunity.

Our proposed Mobile Bio-Converter (MBC) will transform organic waste into affordable bio-fertiliser, supporting healthier soils, better harvests and stronger farmer livelihoods.

Because investing in healthy soil means investing in the people who feed us.

From waste to healthy soil. From healthy soil to opportunity. 🌍

Happy World Fertiliser Day!

A new home, built one jackfruit sale at a time. 🏡

In Kayunga, Mama Irene Balitwala is turning the jackfruit trees she planted with her late husband into something she is deeply proud of.
Before Jack’s Secret established in her home area in Kayunga, Irene sold jackfruit here and there but most of it rotted, without a dependable market. Since then, she has saved every shilling from her jackfruit sales towards building this new home.

The house is still taking shape, but her pride is already unmistakable.
When it is complete, Irene looks forward to celebrating and encouraging others to see what farming can make possible.

A mother raising her family on her own, she also champions other women, work, earn and build something for yourself.
She grew the fruit.
She saved the money.
She is building her future.

Stories like Irenes' is the reason we exist, why every harvest matters, and why connecting farmers to markets is at the heart of Jack’s Secret.

What Changes When a Community Gains a Market?
Before a reliable market exists, farmers may leave produce in the field, accept very low prices or sell only when an informal buyer appears.
After a market is established, something changes.
Farmers begin planning their harvests with greater confidence.
Households can anticipate income.
Young people can see opportunities in processing, transport and distribution.
Local businesses begin to grow around the value chain.
And agricultural produce that once went to waste begins creating value for more people.
That is why our work is not only about buying jackfruit.
It is about building the connections around farmers that make their work more valuable.
The difference between before and after is not simply whether fruit was sold.
It is whether a community can begin to plan for growth.

Introducing Jack’s Secret
Jack’s Secret began with a fruit that was already there.

Across communities in Uganda, jackfruit trees had been growing for generations.
Farmers had the land.
They had the fruit.
But much of its potential value ended at the farm gate.

We started by working directly with farmers and wondered what would happen if more value could be created from what they already grow?
Today, we work with more than 200 farmers, collecting jackfruit and processing it locally into an ingredient that can be used in higher-value food products. Working on the ground has also taught us that the challenge is bigger than jackfruit.

Farmers need reliable markets.
Processing needs to happen closer to production.
Organic waste can become a useful agricultural input.
Farmers need better records of what they grow and supply if they are going to participate in increasingly structured markets.

That experience is shaping what Jack’s Secret is becoming, a business connecting farmers to processing, infrastructure, technology and markets, so more of the value created from agriculture can stay closer to where it begins.

Jackfruit is where our story started.
The farmer is why we keep building.

Every brand has a story. Ours begins with this family.
When our founder, Bauke Dekker, first came to Kayunga, one of the first homes to welcome him was Rashid’s.

Rashid picked a jackfruit from his farm and showed Bauke how to eat it. His wife welcomed us into their home. They both later planted more jackfruit trees.
Today, the farm provides a more consistent source of income, and their children are becoming part of the story too.
This is where Jack’s Secret began, with a farmer, his family, their land and a fruit already growing there.

Years later, that same idea still guides us, how can farmers and their families earn more from what they already have?
Rashid’s family gave us a place to start. We’re proud they’re still part of where we’re going.

Every harvest deserves more value.

What does a steady job make possible beyond the monthly income?

For Kisoko Siraji, it has meant keeping his children in school, supporting his family and buying land of his own. 🏡
This is what value looks like when it stays closer to the community.

What if one of Uganda’s next industries is already growing quietly in our backyards?

Jackfruit has always been familiar, but familiarity can make us overlook value.

We began looking beyond the fruit itself at Jack’s Secret, to the farmers who grow it, the jobs that processing can create, and the markets a Ugandan product can reach.

Today, that means hundreds of farmers and thousands of jackfruits moving through a growing value chain.

The opportunity isn’t always to grow something new, maybe is to build more value around what we already grow.

A new community for Jack’s Secret. 🇺🇬🇳🇱
It was a pleasure joining fellow entrepreneurs and businesses at the NUTIP New Arrivals Networking Event and briefly sharing what Jack’s Secret is building.
Our founder/ CEO Bauke Dekker introduced the thinking behind our work that is connecting farmers to processing, infrastructure and markets so they can create more value from what they already grow.

We were especially pleased to meet H.E. Samura Angele, Ambassador-designate of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Uganda to Uganda, and connect with fellow new members including Auxfin Uganda, Innovation Village Hub, Sheraton Kampala Hotel and Gangarru Group B.V.
Different sectors, but plenty of room for collaboration across agriculture, finance, innovation, hospitality and investment.

Thank you to NUTIP_ Kampala for welcoming Jack’s Secret into the Netherlands–Uganda business community.

We look forward to the partnerships and conversations ahead.

Every harvest deserves more value.
