Starting to look at the grays now that the weather is cooling down. They have been extremely slow to mature this year due to the heat. There are several F1 birds in the mix. Pics are just for fun. No grays available at this time.

It’s been a long hot summer. I’ve taken a break from posting but have been enjoying everyone’s else’s online pics. I see that I’ve picked up a lot of new followers. Phelps Waterfowl is operated in South Carolina by Janet Phelps. I have been breeding calls for the past 27 years. I show at 2-3 shows a year. This is my hobby, but I breed to the SOP.

Hatching was a little bit of a disappointment this year. I hatched about 50% of my usual goal. Many factors played a role including a hatcher that wasn’t keeping temp.

I’m going to start posting some pics of my birds and will be commenting on the pics. Purely my educational opinion.

It’s time to set up breeding pens! I hatched 0 snowys last year. My drakes are beautiful, but they are older and have never been aggressive breeders. Thanks to Eddie Cline, I now have a new drake. The best bonus is that he carries the same line as my birds!
I’m going to try something different this year. This drake is going to rotate between these hens. They will be in side by side pens that are separated by hardware cloth with 2 hens on each side. Since they can all see each other, I’m hoping this will go smoothly. I’m also doing this with my butterscotch.
I hope to get a hen back to Eddie in the fall.

We had a lot of fun at the Peachstate show in Perry, GA yesterday. Birds did very well especially the grays. The gray cockerel had a BV and RV in the double show. My gray hen was RV to the cockerel. Also had a BV and RV with a snowy. It was fun to talk call ducks with Eddie and Amanda. Congratulations to all the winners.
