Sorry for the mix-up! For this year’s Smoke Over Holston Barbecue Competition (October 23–25), we will still be having the Chili category on Saturday.

However, the Homemade Sauce category will be replaced.

Now that things are warming up, it’s time to start talking Smoke Over Holston 🍖

For the past two years, our Saturday categories have been Wings, Sauce, Chili, and Most Creative Dish (one of our personal favorites!). Last year, we also added the Mystery Item, and y’all really brought the creativity.

👉 This year, we’re taking away Chili and need YOUR help to decide what replaces it!

🔥 SMOKE OVER HOLSTON BARBECUE COMPETITION – 2026 COMPETITOR DETAILS 🔥

The Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department is excited to welcome teams back for the 3rd Annual Smoke Over Holston Barbecue Competition, returning to its full October weekend in 2026. This event is open to all teams, from first-time competitors to seasoned pitmasters, and serves as a fundraiser to support our volunteer fire department and community operations.

🚫 The Chili category has been removed for 2026 and will be replaced with a new category that will be announced soon.

💲 Entry Fees & Pricing

$75 per team cooking spot

$25 per camper spot

$25 per category entry

Teams may enter as many categories as they wish.

🎁 Mystery Item Category Details

$25 entry fee

100% of entry fees go directly toward the Mystery Item cash prize

Mystery Item will be provided by the competition

Item will be announced Friday at the competitors’ meeting

Judged separately from all other categories

Does NOT count toward the Grand Champion score

📌 Additional Information

Teams will receive site layout, setup details, and utility access information prior to the event

A mandatory competitors’ meeting will be held Friday

Water will be provided on site; teams must supply their own power source

Event security will be on site throughout the weekend
