I sent out a recap of last weekend's gathering here on the farm. Here's the link to read more: https://open.substack.com/pub/perennialroots/p/building-community?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=1oso4p.

Folks began gathering on our small farm, located in the middle of nowhere Virginia, sandwiched between the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. They came from across Virginia and Maryland, as far away as Japan and Oregon, and as close as ten minutes down the road from us. New neighbors were discovered, old friendships rekindled, fresh relationships made and visions from so many spectrums danced together, reminding us all that talking and relating to each other on a human level is not just possible but very necessary in these times of so much political strife and divide. Perhaps the abyss is not quite so dark as we imagine and it is possible for the chasm between two folks, if we stretch out far enough, to disappear altogether.

Perennial Roots: Biodynamic Farm & Garden

Natalie McGill and Stewart Lundy founded Perennial Roots Farm in 2010 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. We began as a homestead, concerned foremost with reducing waste and providing enough food for our own needs. Over the next few years a garden grew up into a farm. We share a passion for animals, ecology, alternative farming methods and homesteading. Our goals and practices are a synthesis of biodynamic rhythms and the principles of permanent agriculture. We are committed not only to nominal “sustainable” practices, but to regenerative practices that increase fertility with every season. We use intensive multi-species rotational grazing which keeps our animals healthier and nurtures our soil. In 2017 we became Certified Naturally Grown, the first farm on the Eastern Shore of Virginia with this certification. We raise pigs, sheep, goats, geese, ducks, chickens, turkeys and rabbits, have a market garden, small orchard, and more on our 50 acres. In 2019 we hope to add cattle to the mix as well.
