Osprey Hill Farm

Osprey Hill Farm Osprey Hill is a small, organic family farm that is taking big steps towards sustainability. We also offer a wide assortment of veggies & berries.

We sell pastured animal products: chicken & duck eggs, chicken meat, duck meat & holiday turkeys. Permanent + Agriculture = Permaculture. Ag landscape design systems plus creative uses of resources and "waste products" yield huge returns in the way of environmental conservation, minimizing expenses, and keeping a tight lid on quality. Most practitioners of permaculture don't operate on a commercia

l scale so we've adapted the rules. We're not purists by any means but we do subscribe to the basic principles and glean some useful practices. Here's an example: Our latest greenhouse was built with a few uses in mind. First, we planted a green cover crop of oats and favas. Soon after, it would serve as chicken lodging when the weather turned sour in the fall (thanks to all the chickens for evenly distributing your 'waste' and the occasional feather--some people pay big money for that stuff!). The chickens would eventually go to the butcher and our crop of meat birds kept the farm in business over the long, slow winter. Thank you chickens. Next, the greenhouse is serving as a hardening-off house for tender veggie starts this spring, then it will house one early crop of cabbage (no compost or soil amendments necessary--sweet!). The cabbage will come out of the ground just in time to plant our heat loving crops like eggplant, tomatillos, and basil. This fall, we'll undersow those oats & favas and do it all again. And that's just one greenhouse!!

Whatcom County’s Conservation Easement Program and Whatcom Land Trust helped Geoff and Anna Martin to increase their land base by 54 acres — and ensure the land will stay in working production rather than potentially be lost to subdivision and development.

Woohoo!!
After a big early summer push the fifty five acres of additional pasture project is complete!
Through partnering with the Whatcom Land Trust and the Conservation Easement Program we are able to ensure this land will always remain farm land.
The entire property is now fenced, the beginning rows of the silvopasture are planted, and bordering the fence line we planted nearly 3,000 native plants to preserve and maintain the natural land. A big shout out to Trevor & the Whatcom Conservation District for their help with this huge undertaking.
This pasture is now where all of our broilers reside and soon will be home to the sheep and cows as well!

Joel had such a big heart and he was talented in so many ways. He put a lot of his time and energy into the early days of Osprey Hill and helped build this farm—from seeding, weeding, carpentry, animal care, and so many wild adventures in between. We’re heartbroken at this news, and we will always remember Joel for the passion he brought to everything he dedicated himself to. If you can, please help Karly bring him home.

Lots of new faces on the farm these days🌟These two have recently moved to Osprey Hill and are settling in quite well. They work with our sheep to help manage and maintain the pastures and act as protectors to the flock, deterring predators rain or shine 💞🌦️🐑
