The weather has cleared off and we will be open all day for pick your own and bagged Macintosh and Cortland apples on the stand. We have fresh pies, crisps, cider, jams and jellies also for purchase. October is quickly coming to an end which also means the end of our apple season. Don't miss the opportunity to get your apple products. Next September is a long time away!

We can't bake pies and crisps without lots of peeled apples!

Do you love to bake? Fall is the best time for fresh pies, crisps and apple sauces. Mmmmm! We have boxes of utility apples for sale. They don't look traditionally pretty, but are delicious all the same! This is a great opportunity to get large quantities of cooking apples for a low cost.

And just like that it is the middle of October and yet another harvest season is rapidly coming to an end. What an amazingly beautiful and much too short fall. We will continue to be open until the end of the month with Macintosh and Cortland apples for sale at the stand. Pick your own will be limited to Northern Spy, Jonagold, Mutsu and Red Delicious apples only as there are still some of the later varieties left on the trees. Blessed are we to have had another wonderful season, thankful we are for the trees that continue to give us nutritious and beautiful fruit, grateful are we for our health that allows us to be here another harvest season and so appreciative we feel for our amazing customers who come back year to year and support our small family run orchard.

Cooler temperatures means the start of baking season and what a better way to enjoy fall than the smell of warm apple pie and crisp bubbling in the oven. We have limited quanities of utility apples available for purchase at the stand which are just waiting to be bathed in cinnamon and sugar and cooked off into dessert (or breakfast, no judging here). The season is rapidly coming to an end. Don't miss your opportunity for fresh apples. It is a long time till next fall.

Northern Spy apples are green with red flush and striping and are a late season apple that is very winter hardy. They have a white flesh and thin skin and are considered mildly sweet. They are a very hard apple and will store well. These apples are most popular for baking and making cider. Northern Spy apples originated in the early 1800's and were named after the hero in the novel "The Northern Spy" which was published in 1830. Did you know different varieties of apples have different vitamin C content? Northern Spy apples have some of the highest amounts of vitamin C with about 15-20 mg of vitamin C per 100 g of apple. The very popular Macintosh only has about 4 mg. Don't forget to eat the skin though to take full advantage of all those nutrients! Maybe there is something to say about that old saying, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away."

The long awaited and most requested apples, Macouns, are now ready to pick! Macouns, pronounced "Ma-cown" are a dark red with a purple-ish flush apple that is described as having both sweet and tart flavors. They originated in the early 1920's by crossing a Macintosh and a Jersey Black. They make an excellent eating apple and are by far our most popular apple variety.

Have you tried a Jonagold? These large, crisp, sweet and thinned skinned apples are a cross between a Yellow Delicious and Jonathan. They are a yellow apple with red blushing and are good for both eating and baking. Come try one and see what you think!

Have you ever seen a more beautiful apple? Redcorts are a variation of a Cortland apple. They are crisp, juicy and sweet and are great for both eating and baking. A definite favorite here at the farm. We have just started picking these beautiful red purple skinned fruit which will be available for purchase on the stand or for pick your own.

Happy first day of fall and happy apple season! We are officially open 7 days a week, 9am-5pm. We are currently picking Macintosh, Cortland and Pears and have a very limited amount of Honey Crisp available on the stand. Come enjoy these cool fall temperatures before the season is over.
