Taking things serious this time. Never checked gravity on any of my beers before.

This is a hydrometer and it's used for measuring specific gravity of fluids.

In our case, it will help us see how much sugar was in the wort before and after fermenting which will tell us roughly how much alcohol it has. This also helps to make recipes repeatable as you can record the gravity before fermenting everytime to make sure it's the same.

Like cocktails and jiggers, consistency means quality.

Sorry Prince, but in a few days, the doggy room will be a beer room. But only temporarily. I'm so excited to try the new kettle and banjo burner. All we are waiting on is the Mash Tun, and then I'm doing my first, from scratch, all grain brew. Sadly, I did misread an order and got hop pellets on accident, but I did still get some whole hop cones. Therefore, the only real "processed" ingredients in this beer will be the hop pellets. I am a little nervous because beer ingredients aren't cheap, and starting over.... well, it's not really an option. But I'm determined to make this one of the best tasting beers I have ever had.
