Tulsa State Fair was fun as always! Got to scribe which I love doing, also made some quick (because I procrastinated very hard lol) signs with educational stuff on them. Really cool to hear fair patrons repeating bits of them.

I only brought three rabbits, a representative for each breed. Windfalls Rubber Duck was BOBx2 there were only 3 Open Silver Marten, but they're all nice ones. Hopefully he has babies coming this month.

Bottom two are the parents of the top 3. Inorganic x Hyoid (Inorganic x Spermatogenesis). Hyoid didn't get to stick around because his shoulder structure made him uncomfortable but I wanted to try to keep his depth over the hip while improving the shoulder. They had 9, and I culled hard for the shoulder since that's what I absolutely did not want to carry forward to the next generation. These three made the 8 week cull. All Lilac otters lol. But broken buck will not continue forward, that shoulder is not developing well.
Cyanide, the deeper Lilac Otter is my favorite and has been since they were tiny. She definitely got dads depth over the hip but I think with improved shoulder depth and comfort. We'll see how they develop. The other Lilac Otter, Ice Bullet reminds me more of thier uncle, the Amber buck Mandible. But with a straighter loin, where Mandible has a slight taper.

Rabbits are different from many other species. We have pedigrees and registration, and while all registered rabbits are pedigreed, not all pedigreed rabbits can be registered.

Neither are required to show, and you can absolutely build up to pedigreed and registered stock from unpedigreed if you keep records and take the time.

"Purebred" isn't even required to show, they simply have to meet the breed standard.

I think Windfalls Inorganic is currently my best production doe which is a little funny to me since I never showed her. Not because she wasn't good but because she is a homebody. Thankfully her children don't feel that way.

These are 3 of her keeper "babies" from this season, sired by three different bucks. The bottom little doe is sired by an Inorganic son from this season (litter brother to the broken Lynx). The broken opal buck is sired by a completely unrelated buck, the other two are by related bucks but the consistency is cool to see.

Found this looking through older pics, this was a daughter from the $11 mutt doe that got me back into rabbits as an adult. I've had them off and on most of my life as pets, or youth show rabbits. But I/they were very very bad at making more rabbits. I still remember coming out so excited at 9 to my doe having left a perfect line of severed baby heads. So they were mostly pets until I got Khalli. She lived with me for 6 years, raised a bunch of babies and I finally put her down at 7.5. I loved her color, so when I got into Rex I started with Harli and Tri. Kinda fun to have the potential this fall to have some Brindle/Tri coming. Though I'll also be ok with breeding out the ej.

Fair Season is fast approaching! State Fairs have the added challenge of having to enter so far in advance, but some do allow substitutions or at least ear number changes.

And we have several Fall show options too!

Two different SR maiden does, both of which will be bred this fall. The left, a Castor is very much a parts doe (beautiful fur and a very defined peak) the broken Lynx is a more complete rabbit. But specifically looking at the top view the Lynx is much fuller through the shoulder, and more correct proportion wise as well in length vs width.

During the waiting period before breeding season starts is a great time to get some maintenance out of the way. Check and clean nestboxes. Straighten up the chaos that happens when the focus is primarily not dying lol. And then take each rabbit out, trim nails and look for issues. After a hot summer, fungus is very common on Rex furred rabbits with access to bowls. It takes longer for their fur to dry, so the hot moist environment is perfect for fungus. Cleaning with an antifungal and AD Diaper Ointment works great for us.

I take them out in their breeding groups so I can see if the program still makes sense. So I pull the Himi project. Look over the doe, pose her and make notes. Then originally I had two bucks I was planning to use, but on looking, one of those bucks is a much better fit than the other. So now that project has been sorted and breeding plans are made. I know what I need to watch for in the kits, and what that project is lacking. This is a tiny, and problematic project so they have a long ways to go, but seeing body improvement AND we're almost to showable Himi color wise. Though I may have to mess that up again to make type improvement lol.
