Peper Livestock & Poultry Concentrating on Simmental and commercial crossbred cattle, show lambs, and large fowl Brahmas and Cochins and Belgian d’Uccle bantams.

I have been involved with the livestock industry since I was old enough to walk. My family raises commercial cattle while I concentrate on Simmental and Maine-Anjou/Chi cattle. I have raised sheep and hogs as well. I recently got out of the hog business and plan to hit it hard again with sheep and adding Boer goats this summer. Colten and Mandy will play a bigger part in the operation as they get

older and both in FFA. We plan to travel the country to find superior genetics. They will be showing both lambs and goats at local, state, regional, and national shows. I plan to heavily utilize artificial insemination and embryo transfer as we build up quality and numbers over the next few years. My goal is to raise quality market and breeding livestock that will compete in the showring. I have also done some consulting work with a few people on cattle reproduction, breeding, and genetics as this was my main interest during my undergrad work at Oklahoma State.

Spring hatching season began yesterday! I purchased Black Mottled Belgian d’Uccle hatching eggs from North Forty Farm. This was an impressive shipment as 100% of the eggs (15/15) were developing at first candling. Shipped eggs are always a gamble. I took the quick opportunity to take these out after assisting one to hatch. The last 3 have pipped and progressing. These chicks have a ton of vigor. Oh, I almost forgot. I ended up with a surprise chick lol that is a Showgirl Silkie you see in there!

Our family roots run very deep in the Poland breed as that is where my Grandfather Chester Meal started in the purebred business in 1916. The Meal’s cut a pretty big swath in those days with their Polands showing 5 Polands to Grand Overall 4-H Barrow honors at the Indiana State Fair.
