At Walnut Grove Farms, sustainability starts with stewardship. We focus on caring for the soil and using resources wisely so the land can continue to provide for years to come. Each season is a chance to improve what we’ve been given and carry that responsibility forward. Happy Earth Day.

We appreciated the opportunity to be part of The Garden Club of Kentucky's 95th Annual Convention in Berea.

John spoke on the importance of stewardship and the role agriculture plays in caring for the land. Grateful to be included in conversations that connect farming, conservation, and community.

This spring, welcomed Will Burnett as an intern through The Ohio State University TOP Program. Originally from the UK, Will recently earned his degree in Precision Agriculture and brings a strong farming background from his family’s operation.

So far, he’s worked with the spraying team and spent time operating equipment, gaining hands-on experience across the farm.

He’s been especially impressed by the planning and efficiency behind daily operations.

Will plans to pursue a career in agronomy or crop consulting after returning home.

We’re glad to have him on the team this season.

Corn planting conditions have started off really nicely (i.e. eerily warm & dry). We had ~25% of our crop planted by April 2nd and decided to take Easter weekend off. The team has worked very diligently for 6+ weeks on spraying, fertilizing, planting and all the related tasks to get the 2026 crops off to a good start!

Meanwhile the grain handling team is diligent as always cleaning and moving grain and delighting customers! Many thanks to everyone for the hard work!

The gates are open at Keeneland , and a Kentucky tradition is underway. 🏇

While race day takes center stage, the surrounding land has long been a part of Kentucky's agricultural story. Walnut Grove Farms is proud to play a small role in stewarding some of this beautiful Kentucky countryside.

Stephanie spent the first part of the week in Washington, D.C. with the Farm Journal Foundation. She is proud to serve as a Farmer Ambassador for an organization that supports food and agriculture research, work that ultimately benefits our farm and farms across the United States.

While in D.C., she attended the Agri-Pulse Ag & Food Policy Summit and spent two days on Capitol Hill meeting with congressional representatives and their staff to discuss issues important to agriculture.

Tuesday was National Ag Day, and she was honored to attend the celebration at the Voice of the Farmer Garden in front of USDA headquarters on the National Mall.

A few of our Walnut Grove Farms team members are in Lexington this week for the James B. Beam Institute Industry Conference. 🌾

We’ve already heard some great presentations about sustainable agriculture, and appreciate the shout-out for the Kentucky Rye Project by the Ohio Valley Grain Exchange. It’s always great to spend a few days learning and connecting with like-minded agriculturalists from around the region.

This month, we’re highlighting PW Denning, a valued member of the Walnut Grove team who helps keep things moving day in and day out.

PW joined our team in November 2020 as a hauling specialist, bringing years of experience in truck driving and agriculture. Most days, you’ll find him running a 53-foot box trailer along a nine-mile route, loading about every hour and ten minutes and making dozens of stops to keep grain moving.

In addition to hauling, PW handles a majority of the bushhogging on the farm each year. He takes pride in keeping everything looking sharp and enjoys the quiet time in the tractor out in the field.

His favorite Walnut Grove memory? The annual Christmas breakfast, when the whole team gets together to slow down and catch up.

We’re grateful for the work ethic and pride in the job PW brings to the team.

Early spring fieldwork means watching the radar and taking advantage of every window.

The team has been applying anhydrous ammonia to corn ground, working between rain showers to keep progress moving. Timely nutrient applications help set the crop up for strong growth as planting season approaches.
