Did you know you could make soap with calamine lotion in it?? I didn’t, until a few days ago. Of course, as soon as I heard about it, I had to give that a try!! These bars are our usual gentle tallow and lard soaps, but made with soothing aloe juice and calamine powder. They have to cure for a bit, but they will be ready in a month or so. I can’t wait to try it!

Good news: more pork is arriving soon!! Our processor just let us know that some of our pork is ready to be picked up. We will be restocked in pork chops, pork shoulders and butts, ground pork (YES, we will have ground pork again!!!!) and St. Louis-style spare ribs later this week. I will send an email out and post on Facebook when they are in our freezers and ready for you to reserve on our website. We expect to have it ready for you by this weekend - our farm store will be open on Saturday, Sept. 5th, and we will be making deliveries and at the farmers market this weekend too. (Smoked meats - hams and bacon - aren't ready yet. They should be in our freezers in a couple of weeks.)

Oh my. I have a lot of thoughts on this. But the most important thing is this: we have to follow Maryland regulations for our meat sales. And Maryland does not allow us to sell meat that has been butchered on our farm. So I promise you, all of our meat has been processed in a small, locally-owned facility that actually IS "immaculately CLEAN" (unlike every farm ever - has he ever actually been to a farm??? I can agree that farmers work very hard and are smart and efficient, but clean? Nope, not something we are generally accused of.) And if you buy your meat from us, I can absolutely guarantee you that the meat was raised here on our farm in Adamstown, Maryland, not imported from anywhere, and it was processed under strict guidelines for animal welfare and sanitation.

BREAKING: Trump announces he will eliminate regulations on beef processing amid multiple food-borne illness outbreaks:

"I am authorizing legal documents to be drawn in order to allow Farmers and Ranchers to be given the right to PROCESS THEIR OWN FOOD. This should move quickly."

This is what our kitchen looks like when I’m gearing up to make the next batch of soaps! These will all be scented FarmHer tallow and lard soaps. Some will be new fall scents, like Apple Sage, and some will be replenishing our supply of our most popular scents, like Mango and Lavender Mint. (Yes, more Mango is coming!!) I have enough equipment to do two batches per day, so it will take six days to get these all done. After they are made, they will have to cure for four to six weeks. These will be ready in October!!
