CONTEST IS CLOSED!!! HAY IS DRIED AND BALED! STAY TUNED FOR AN UPDATE AND THE WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
It’s time for another contest. This field, planted in oats and peas, is roughly 20 acres. On average it was standing 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 feet tall. Guess how many bales we get off the field to win a Gibson Cattle Sweatshirt. The bales will be approximately 900 lbs. My plow boy hubby is guesstimating 150 bales. What’s your guess?? Closest guess wins! Get your guesses in by Wednesday, July 20th at 5 pm.
Gary and Ada continue to grow healthy and strong. Sometimes it’s hard to get good pictures when they are out on pasture.
Our newest team member being schooled by our grandson Blaine.
When you visit the pasture where one of the friendliest cows who ever lived is, you take the time to get some pets and loves in.

A couple weeks ago when I was a volunteer for career day at my daughters school, an idea was brought up that was similar to a Texas Farm Bureau display, but I chose M&M’s, because kids love to see M&M’s!

It worked. Every child that walked up wanted them. Which created a perfect opportunity and focus to show them that there are an estimated 333 Million people in the United States.
The ones that are responsible for growing their food & fiber, make up only 0.60% of that population.

Farmers are highly outnumbered already. With a fast-growing population and a decrease in farmers, it seems a little concerning for our future. Credit TALKfarms
This little birdie decided to build a nest in our bathroom exhaust fan. Layla helped Grandpa rescue her when she fell down through the fan into the cover inside the house.
Our girls are well trained.
Gary knows His name.
There are pros and cons to raising cattle. There are trials and tribulations. Highs and lows. Risks and rewards. There are dangers when cow /calf pairs are put out onto pasture. That hit home this last week. We lost a calf to a cougar.
Gary was playing King of the Hill. He’s growing well and feeling strong and spunky!
This CANNOT be said enough...
THE RIDE GOES ON...
Since we are starting the month of May. We start to celebrate Beef Month.
Is it time to refresh your Gibson Cattle Farm clothes???

This saddens me. We recently quit the dairy part of our operation after 31 years. I didn't want to stop; but we could no longer deny the fact that the dairy wasn't paying the bills. The other endeavors we started were supplementing the dairy so that we could continue. Eventually, it just doesn't make sense to go on.
I saw this statistic recently and it really hit me hard. Maybe it’s because dairy is a daily part of my diet. Maybe it’s because I know family farms that have gone under. Maybe because our whole agricultural system suddenly feels much more vulnerable. In fact since 2006, the United States has lost half its dairy farms.
There’s no reason to panic about supply though–during that same time milk production has increased 24%, and milk per cow has grown 20%.
How can you help? Buy dairy! 🍦🥛🧀
We have a healthy, strong and handsome bull calf. 15’s twin streak is over, but it was a great run!! Congratulations to Andrea Marie Pratt who guessed the date and to Heidi Lampert Seitters for guessing the gender/ # of calves. I’ll be reaching out to arrange the delivery of your prize!!
This is Callico or Calli. Born tri-colored a year ago. We thought she might go all red or black, but she has stayed callico. Obviously, the plow boy hubby knows his cattle better than I do….
UPDATE: she’s calving right now! One baby on the ground. Stay tuned!!!
#15 is close to calving. If you have followed for awhile you may remember she is the cow who has had twins every year except for her first calving. We are having a little contest. Guess when she will calve and whether she has a single or twins. Guess the gender or genders of the calves. First person to submit a guess that is right will win a set of Gibson Cattle Farm coffee cups. Submit your guesses in the comments!!
So; cut the fence, brought the tractor in to break the ice so they would cross
They got themselves across the creek and onto this section of pasture then refused to come back.
This is Ada, Gary’s sister calf, and our cow dog Jo. They were playing a little until Steve told Jo to get to work and put Ada back where she belongs.
Gary has adjusted well to being in the group pen with the other momma cows and babies. He’s adjusted so well, in fact, that he is quite comfortable eating over at the neighbors……
Gary and his newly named mama Lola got to go out with the other mamas and babies.
Gary and his Momma getting moved to the barn to spend more time bonding; while staying cozy and warm and dry.
This is the pen where our newborns and their Mommies are staying. Fresh bedding and a shelter for them to get in out of the weather. Good feed and fresh water! Everything needed for success! Eventually, 🤞, Gary and his Momma will join this group!
Gary and his Momma were reunited finally. We were a bit concerned she wouldn’t take him since we had to remove him due to the extreme cold. They didn’t have a chance to bond as they normally would. Happily, I can report that they seem to be doing well. We will move them from this pen to another solo pen for a few days before we put them in with the other momma’s and babies! Stay tuned…..
We brought Gary into the milk house, rubbed him down to get his circulation going and get him dried off. Turned the heaters on and left him there, checking him often, for the rest of the night and a good share of New Year’s Day. We wanted to make sure he was doing okay before we put him back out in the winter weather.
Meet Gary. Gary was born on one of our coldest nights. It was about -6 when he was born. His Momma is a first calf heifer and wasn’t sure what to make of this ‘new’ herd member. If it wasn’t for our neighbors Gary and Noreen hearing the distress in the herd; we might have lost this little guy! He is named Gary in honor!!
Three new heifers have been born. I’m thinking names: Joy, Noel and Merry
Corbin is helping Grandpa.
Shared on another page I follow from a farmers recent funeral.
I'm not crying, you're crying. 😭👨🌾

This is what happens when you complain to your farmer hubby about never doing anything together…. Farmer date.
The seedlings for Tyler and Hayley Elliott’s future beef herd came to visit our farm the other day so they could get all their vaccinations and see the veterinarian.
When moving cattle from one pasture to another pasture down the road, it sure helps when they come when you call them!
