Planting cotton - yes cotton - this week in Adrian Township, Michigan.

Why? Well, a large portion of my farm revenue is actually seed on eBay and Etsy, and it does well! That is the aim here.

While to***co continues to be my best seller by far as a niche exotic (and organically grown, for that matter), experiments like this cotton often pan out to new product lines in the seed department. We shall see...

"You can't grow that here!" Cute. I hear it all the time and laugh for a lotta different exotics - to***co, sugar cane, lemon tree seedlings, etc. After a quick show around of the field (or pictures in the off season), I usually get people to see that great things like these ARE possible with good old hard work and attention to detail!

The flowering and mature pics are from other years where, yes, I was able to get cotton bolls with actual cotton in them, just not enough to sell. Onto the larger quantities, now.

And see? It's not too hard after all 😄

You know, I may no longer be practicing as a civil engineer, but I'm still designing and building infrastructure!!!!! 🤣🤣...

I promise you - this will beat ANYTHING on the gross-looking cooler shelves, wherever you shop.

Meijer? Kroger? Plum Market? Trader Joe's? Walmart? What state did those birds come from (and how long has the meat sat there)? What were they fed? Medicated? Was the facility clean? Did anyone care? 🤢

I think most people raising pigs realize their destructive power, but I guess I didn't realize their CON-structive power. The two 1,500 square-foot "crop circles" you see there are caused by the TWO pigs I currently have bearing market weight, and being pasture-raised.

Maybe I can get rid of the 1940s-era plow sitting out there in favor of the animals 🤣🤣🤣

ANNOUNCEMENT: Taking Orders for Vic’s Pigs – Michigan Pasture-Raised Pork

You read it right! Taking orders for 1/2 and Whole Pigs, just in time for summer barbecues and parties! Bacon, hams, sausages, ribs, steaks, loins, chops – you get it all!!!

I’m raising these hogs *ON PASTURE*, which means *GREAT, HEALTHY, FLAVORFUL MEAT*. That’s because they have fulltime, 24/7, absolute access to the outdoors and natural living conditions. They are better for you, with less fat and no vaccinations or antibiotics. I am their humane and only caretaker – the farmer himself.

The Specifics:

Who: You, if you care about good meat and live in Southeast Michigan or Northwest Ohio!

What: $6/LB hanging weight, the weight of the animal once slaughtered and hanging on the hook at the butcher.
• This will come out to *approximately* $450-$550 for a half pig or $900-$1,100 for a whole pig. The actual amount of meat you get should be around 65-75 LBS for a half pig or 130-150 LBS for a whole.
• All cuts will be vacuum-sealed and frozen. A half pig should fit into about 3.5 cubic feet of freezer space (like a regular fridge freezer of space) and a whole pig into about 7.0 cubic feet (a small chest freezer).

Where: Delivery available for additional fee, or pickup on-farm in Adrian Twp., Michigan. All processing will have taken place at the highly-rated, reputable, and friendly M&M Smokehouse near Hillsdale, Michigan.

When: Pickup or delivery anytime after the end of May.
