Annual *Thimbleberry* update :)

Ok this is a little opposite my usual antics. Normally, I'm interested in growing TROPICAL things that "shouldn't" grow in Southeast Michigan...🌴

Today, it's an Up North, or North Woods, or Hemiboreal species (for you fellow nerds)🌲 that "shouldn't" grow "down here" in the comparatively sweltering summers, deep in Michigan's agricultural Corn Belt. For heaven's sake, we're the same latitude as Rome here!!!

My Yooper friends will laugh at me pathetically growing this delicacy and edge-of-woods w**d that grows across much of the U.P. and a few other locales, left behind after the glaciers receded thousands of years ago. Emily Loveless and others!

But give me a lil' credit! 😆 Coaxing this one along in our summers is a little like...planting apple trees in Miami. Ok, maybe not quite, but we're talking 350 miles south of it's native range!

The seeds were courtesy of my fellow Michigan Tech grad and friend Helen Rau. This is Year 2. Maybe someday, we'll get some berries. Till then, this one's not commercial, just for fun.

To***co update - this year, to change it up, I'm growing a Tennessee Burley, instead of the usual Virginia Gold.

Burley is a primary component of many to***co blends, from ci******es to ci**rs to pipes to chew. Many customers both domestically and internationally have requested a Burley strain from me for the purpose of seed.

As a reminder, most of Verbum Farm's to***co is for the purpose of all-natural, unsprayed, chemical-free (organic, if you prefer that buzzword term) seed sales on eBay and Etsy. I have hundreds of orders go out annually to all 50 States, the U.S. Territories, and approximately 60 nations and territories worldwide. It is a crop I take most seriously, despite being a lotta fun to grow and brag about!

Yes, it is legal under both Federal and State of Michigan law. Even if you don't smoke or chew, it's quite the sight to behold in the garden. And it's deer-resistant, and able to be made into a natural pesticide for other plants!

Anyways, enjoy the pix. And if you get a chance, come visit to see maybe your only chance to see to***co growing commercially above Kentucky! Don't wait till December haha.

These are 2 weeks ago, so there's not much ground left to see now, but anyways, here's my approximately 3/4 of an acre enclosed in 8' poly fencing that may feed you or provide you seeds in coming years.

This year I included:

Tennessee Burley to***co, cotton, cantaloupe, Butternut squash, Georgia Candy Roaster squash, cucumbers of a few varieties, tomatoes of various cultivars, decorative squash, sweet corn, and a couple other things. Incredibly, this is a "pared-down" list compared to other seasons.

Also, in case you think I spray all the ground or the crops (I do actually spray individual thistles and things like that, but not the crops or the all the soil), take a look at the last picture, showcasing the w**dy ground left unplanted. That's what I till and hoe prior to straw mulching. Someone's gotta keep the straw guys and girls in business!
