I am way behind on sharing my duck videos and pictures. Here’s one from a month ago of Mama duck and her brood! All the babies are even more grown up than this now! But I had to share this adorable shot. 🥰

Ducks can be important allies in the garden! They’re experts at controlling (i.e. eating) squash beetles, cucumber beetles, caterpillars, flies, moths, and other garden pests. But be careful to keep a close eye on them or fence off your tender crops, because the ducks will also nibble on lettuce, berries, and immature squash.

We’ve got some drakelets available for local pickup! Come get one of these handsome boys to add more color genetics to your Ancona flock! All of these boys came from green eggs as well, so they may carry those genes onto their future young!

Here we see a peaceful scene of 5-week-old ducklings bathing preening, and snacking. Wait until the end for the flap!

At 0:40, you can clearly see the bird on the right getting oil from its oil gland near the tail to oil up its feathers.

Looking for any local homeschoolers who would be interested in joining a one-day duck class at our homestead! If there’s enough interest we will organize something! We did this a couple of years ago and it was a blast!

You might ask: why is Bill sitting by these irises all alone? But looks can be deceiving. Bill, one of our sweetest ducks, is in fact guarding one of his lady friends who is laying an egg while hidden in the irises.
