🪰Flies & ticks are in the news a lot right now, and in the hot months we have to be extra vigilant. The last 2 days we did our normal summer health maintenance-

-pinkeye vaccine (pinkeye is spread by flies)
-new ear tags (medicated to deter flies)
-pine tar (seals wounds & deters flies)

We also hang fly traps in the barns and put out cattle rubs, where they can scratch an itch & get a topical dose of fly & tick repellant at the same time.

We check the herd daily to keep an eye on things- we want our cows to be happy, healthy, & safe!🐂🐂🐃🐃

Wildflowers starting to show up at the farm- not as many as recent years but still pretty like normal. Also our mama dove in the donkey stable had her 2 babies (you can see 1 of them in the photo).

It is hot here now- it won’t last all summer, though. Hasn’t been much to post lately. BK, Hank, & Bill are replacing the waterer in the corral, Kim’s been doing some weedeating in the fence rows. We got our hay cut and Bill is stacking it in the barn. We will be cleaning out/dusting off the hay equipment to store for the season— may put up some square bales later but got enough off the first cut to let the hay field rest for now. We will be grilling for TUMC’s VBS & the GHS Band camp later this summer, but for right now, we are getting the work done quick & efficient then finding a place in the shade.

We will be restocking our freezers at the start of the week— more tenderloin filets, NY Strips, & the ever popular flank/skirt strips. Hopefully by Tuesday evening everything will be online & available to order.
