Cream line is what makes our milk different. We do not homogenize which means our milk naturally separates.

If you were one of the lucky ones that purchased our milk this weekend, take a look at that lovely cream line! I marked it since milk is difficult to photograph. Lots and lots of cream makes for rich milk or the opportunity to skim off some for 2 products in one!

Part of being a small family farm is balance.

Today we not only processed milk for the market tomorrow but we started on a fun family project: kids swingset! The goal is to finish by Monday while milking every day. Good thing we called in the grandparents for backup!

Thank you for supporting our family.

Our May milk test results came back, Somatic cell count: 18,000 cells per milliliter.

If that number doesn't mean anything to you yet, here's the context. Somatic cells are cells naturally present in milk. Every dairy herd has them. The state of Minnesota allows up to 750,000 per milliliter for Grade A milk. The industry considers anything under 200,000 to be good quality. Under 100,000 is considered excellent.

We came in at 18,000. That is 2.4% of the allowable limit.

Low somatic cell count tells you a few things. It means the cows are healthy, no udder inflammation, no mastitis. It means the milk is clean at the source. And it means better flavor and longer shelf life, because the enzymes that come with higher counts are what break down milk fat and protein over time.

This is what a micro-dairy looks like in practice. We know these cows by name. We don't need technology to tell us when the cows are off. Fresh air, green grass, and a relationship with the farmer is what our cows need.

Our beef finished at the butcher in time for the weekend!

This is how our grass & milk fed Guernsey Steer turned out. Amazing marbling on the steaks and golden fat that melts like butter.

Pickup at the Aitkin Farmer's Market on Saturdays or message us about picking up on farm in Aitkin MN.

The first day of a market is always interesting.

Last night we had to do some quick tire repairs for our trailer, but we finished in time to make it to the Deerwood Farmers Market Co-op today from noon to 4pm. We will have milk, yogurt, and eggs. A small delay in the frozen yogurt but it is coming!

Stop by and pickup some dairy so that we can pay the repair bill! 😅

Our first batch of yogurt for the season is ready!

To celebrate we made a quick and easy herb yogurt dip. Simple, our yogurt + your favorite herbs & spices. We did garlic, lemon, and dill. A perfect afternoon snack.

Pickup a container of yogurt this week at our markets! Don't forget our honey yogurt makes a wonderful base for a fruit dip.
