🥧 🎃 Random thought of the day; is not about chickens. 🫣

💭 🤔 Someone tell me, who actually uses 2 tbsp of cool whip as a serving? 🤭

Like pumpkin pie but don’t want to make the pie? This is my new fav! ⬇️

⭐️ Dannon light and fit Pumpkin Pie yogurt
⭐️ 1 full crushed graham cracker (ginger snaps would be even better but I didn’t have those)
⭐️ Topped with whipped topping (or not).

This would also be amazing with their lime or banana cream varieties!!

🖤 Chicks and random thoughts 🐣

📸 For starters how cute is this picture?!? 🫶🏼 My daughter and her friends will spend hours in the brooder room with these little peepers. Plenty of love to go around!

I set my last hatch today. It’s a random day as I usually set for myself on Sundays, but we haven’t AId in a week and I figured today was just as good as any, and it made the perfect number for a full incubator since I tossed in a few bantam eggs to test fertility. 🤷🏼‍♀️

✋🏻 That is the total number of Cochin hatches I will have by the time my own fall hatch is said and done. Lots of eggs tossed, but it’s all been worth it. 😉

I love what I am seeing in the first 5 babies that hatched this weekend and I can’t wait for more!

Before I know it my brooder room is going to be full of little black feather balls. 🤩 No buffs in these hatches. I’ll make an all buff hatch while
I’m hatching for 4-H this winter with the incubation capacity I will be able to have this time around.

Looking forward to the show next Saturday. Lots of driving for a short stay, but it’s worth it to catch up with those I can. Anything I had/have available for eggs or chicks or otherwise has been spoken for already. If I find anything else to offer for pick up at the show I will be sure to post it here.

Feels like Friday today with the kids on MEA, but looking forward to a long family weekend around home! Doesn’t happen often. 🤭

This quote has me thinking about commitment.

I’ll keep this short and sweet.

Those that have been raising chickens longer than others may get more recognition, but to me it is what you’ve done in the years you’ve raised poultry that truly counts. Have they been moving their line forward or …… ? Do years really count?

If you’re getting somewhere with your line, it seems that’s the line that people want.

The irony is most don’t want to put in the work to get there and others don’t want to pay the price for quality or put on the miles to go get what they want. They just see beautiful birds.

Makes you wonder if what you sell will get better or worse in the hands of others….

Time is money. Effort gets results. You get out of it what you put into it. There is no such thing as instant gratification in raising poultry.

🍂 🍃 ☀️ 🧡 With fall being my favorite season, it’s no wonder buff is my favorite variety! 😉 The crisp cool days, beautiful autumn leaves, and golden hour that warms the soul; this is true natural beauty!

📸 Not edited. Not enhanced. Real raw photos. Deep golden uniform buff like this is what I strive for. Some prefer the lighter, but to me, this is where it’s at! Simply striking!

🥚 🐣 Black Cochin Chicks…. Because I can….

These girls are going stronger than I thought they might, so I am excited to say that after Sunday I will have 2 full Brinea 56 incubators full of Black Cochin eggs. My fall hatch started later than last season, but I am very optimistic about the end result. Less chicks to feed up and grow out; bonus!

I have 1 clan oversupplying and I don’t need all of the chicks they will produce over the next month. I try to keep even - or close to even - hatch numbers across all my clans. Just personal preference. Keeps me from overpopulating one clan and under populating another.

I will keep fertilizing the eggs if there is interest in LOCAL PICK UP in November. No, I will not ship. Before sending a message, please note these chicks will be more than my usual price due to the breed pairing they come from and the potential these hatches have. I will also be taking a non-refundable deposit to hatch and hold them because I would have otherwise stopped setting for myself. These will be the last Cochins available for 2026. I will not offer hatching eggs due to the amount of unfertilized eggs I will be collecting with the breed pairings I have matched for this hatching season as mentioned in my previous post.

☀️ What a beautiful day to have a beautiful day!

🪮 Guess I’m not the only one having a bad hair day 🤭

Sorting birds from our spring hatch this afternoon. This is the 2nd time I have cut a few in the last couple months. Liking what I see in most. Males and females alike will no longer be a strain on the feed bill. Makes more room for those that have given me a reason to keep them. It’s amazing how few you keep out of the great plenty you hatch. 🤷🏼‍♀️ That’s just the way the cookie crumbles.

The best feather width I’ve had this year was on a cull. Too bad. Still not enough of a reason to keep her.

It’s a beautiful thing when you see all of the positive traits come together on the same bird.

⭐️ Black black with green sheen! That’s making me happy.

🤩 Corn comb yellow feet without pigment holes. Huge win!

⭐️ Beautiful combs of moderate size with straight points!

🤩 Nice size, wide bodies, and lots of room left to grow is all great to see. (They may look gangly now, but that’s just means that have all the more room to fill in!!)

🖤 Overall, it’s a great day to have a great day!

Just when you thought we were done for the season, we bring you a new and exciting update! 🙌🏻

🕺Trevor is a rockstar! He purchased chicks from us in January, as many of you did. He killed it at his County Fair in August, and he hasn’t lost his edge! Congrats again kid!

Makes me even more excited for our breed pairings this year! Maybe Trevor will show some of ours again next season…. Or maybe he will be able to breed his own out of these birds; how rewarding! Can’t wait to see what the future holds.
