💚🎉❤️ Happy National Cannoli Day! 💚🎉❤️

🇮🇹 The cannoli originated in Sicily and dates way back to between the 9th-11th centuries! The word “cannoli” comes from the Latin word canna, meaning reed, because the pastry dough was originally wrapped around river reeds. It still remains one of Sicily’s most popular desserts today! It made its way to America in the 19th century and grew in popularity after the famous line in the Godfather: “Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.” 🤌🏼

💝 Our DeVitis family cannoli filling recipe has been around for decades. It’s a traditional cream made from fresh ricotta cheese. We have them available in small (3” cannoli for $1.75) and large (5” cannoli for $3.15). We make them fresh daily and have them in our dessert case. We wish Nick’s Great Uncle Vince a very happy heavenly birthday today! 🎂💝 He is the younger brother of Nick’s Grandfather, Angelo and father of Richard, Debbie, Darla, Donnie, and Dyna. He lived in Akron all of his life and was a stranger to no one. He could make anyone smile with his charming smile and especially his food! One customer remembers being waited on by him was like going to confession: he always felt better afterwards!

🍝 He worked at DeVitis until 1970 and then again 35 years later after he retired from being a car salesmen. He worked in the deli and the produce departments up until he died. It will be 20 years this November that he passed away and we still think of him everyday. We have a sign in the deli dedicated to him. We also have his picture in the office. He unfortunately passed away before seeing his sauce, Zio Vincenzo’s Sugo Fresco (Uncle Vince’s Fresh Sauce), on our shelves. He made a lot of different sauces, but this one was his favorite. It’s made with San Marzano tomatoes from Italy, olive oil, onions, and seasonings. 🍅🍃🧅 Only 7 ingredients for a fresh, straight out of the garden taste!

🧑🏽‍🍳 Uncle Vince loved to cook for his family and friends. Many of his recipes are still carried on at the store today. When you pick up a jar of Zio Vincenzo’s sauce, or enjoy a taste of his hot peppers during hot lunch, or the smashed potatoes on our catering menu, just know he is smiling down knowing you are appreciating his work!
