This will likely be the final time I can take the whole crew to the vet at once (never thought there would still be 5 left at 4.5 months). The crate isn't exactly comfortable

Dottie's newest kids were born 7/26. They're both little girls. Right now, in the "nursery", we have 3 mamas with a buckling and 3 doelings. Our last mama is still a couple weeks from kidding. (The chickens have also moved back into the nursery as they've recognized the puppies don't have access to this area).

It has been a hectic season round here (as usual) with Leandra wrapping up a post-doc and about to start another, the usual foster kid shuffle/court stuff/life drama, and Aaron's brain surgery in May. As a result, he may have failed to keep detailed breeding records on the calendar and we weren't quite expecting kids to be dropping in our 1st full day home from our DC vacation. In fact, his calendar notes indicate that we have a full 10 days before we should be expecting!! Thankfully, while walking the grounds this morning, he noticed 2 of the mamas were especially heavy with milk and we had at least had the conversation that kids were imminent. Then he goes out to do evening chores to the cries of newborns!! The best news is that the puppies, while clearly obsessed with whatever is going on, did not seem to be causing any type of problems!!

Our litter is almost 3 months old and we have not found homes for several of them. Pure bred Anatolian Shepherd growing up alongside ducks and goats with minimal exposure to chickens and even an Amazon parrot! If you know of anyone needing their livestock protected, put me in touch please!

From a shopper at the Farmer's Market this morning: "Do you sell regular eggs? "

Took all my discipline to simply reply "we only sell eggs from the happiest ducks in Florida"

She was still disappointed

Yes, those are chickens. No, we are not expanding into chickens. 6 chicks to grow up with our puppies so they learn how to care for a different type of poultry as some feedback from our last litter indicated growing pains when it came to birds other than ducks!

These are our breeding ducks at the moment. They're apart from the rest of the flock to ensure pure runner and Welsh Harlequin eggs to be incubated. There are a total of 8 females between the 2 groups and they've produced 8 eggs for the past 5 days in a row which is impressive! Look what they did this morning

I know the egg market is crazy right now. But what's a fair asking price for 1/2 dozen black eggs?
